Tuberculinum - a Common Remedy for Children

Tuberculinum is one of our main constitutional homeopathic remedies for children, especially those with weak constitutions who suffer from frequent infections and allergies, as well as children with a wide range of developmental and behavioural disorders.

Developmental Delays and Learning Disabilities

Many of these children lag behind in their developmental milestones. They may be slow to sit, walk or teeth or learn to talk. Tuberculinum can often help to normalize the development and help them catch up.

Some children may simply be slow at comprehension and may find it exhausting to apply themselves to their studies, making homework an ordeal.

I have also seen children become unable to focus after a severe infection, such as pneumonia. Suddenly a previously bright child seems constantly tired and unable to study, be lazy or complain about headaches or eye aches from studying.

Restlessness, Defiance and Destructiveness

Some tuberculinum children are very restless and hyperactive, even in their sleep. These children mess up their beds, fall out of them and grind their teeth.

They can be irritable and intentionally malicious, touching or breaking an object with willful intent, even looking at a sibling or parent while doing so. It is exasperating for the parent, but the child actually is taken over by these destructive impulses.

Oppositional and defiant behaviour is marked in these children. These youngsters can be very loud, forceful and have violent rages and tantrums and their behaviour may be worsened by dairy products.

Bedwetting, Head-thumping and Allergies

Tuberculinum is also one of our main remedies for bed wetting in children as well as for head-thumping. Heads may be thumped against pillows, bed frames, doors and walls, sometimes quite forcefully.

Tuberculinums may be born with an unusual amount of dark hair and sometimes hair on their ears and shoulders or going down their backs. Their heads my be too large, too small or misshapen and they may suffer from headaches. 

​These children often have enlarged adenoids, chronic ear infections, allergies, especially to cats and many chest symptoms, including chronic coughs, easy pneumonia and asthma. I have cured many cases of chronic bronchitis with tuberculinum.

These children tend to be more susceptible to adverse reaction to vaccines and medications, making them more liable to develop autism and other more serious developmental disorders.

Bacon and Milk

Frequently these children crave bacon and other smoked meats such as ham, salami and pepperoni, as well as cold milk, which often aggravates them. They may like meat, fat and salty foods as well as ice cream.

Family History of Tuberculosis

Please note that a child does not need all of the above symptoms to benefit from this great remedy. A family history of TB is usually present but not always known. We simple prescribe on the presence of the above symptoms.

TB exposure in ancestors may leave epigenetic changes which can predispose offspring to the conditions described.

​Overall, tuberculinum is one of my top remedies to help children with developmental and behavioural disorders.
