Natural and Homeopathic Help for Speech and Language Disorders

Speech and language disorders are on the rise with as many as 11% of children being diagnosed now. Diagnosis include speech delay, apraxia, aphasia, auditory processing disorder, selective mutism and others. Speech therapy can be very helpful and I highly recommend it. The causes of speech disorders are varied and not always well understood, however, brain injuries and infections as well as exposure to various toxins can be potential contributing factors.

For example a large Norwegian study examining mercury exposure through fish consumption during pregnancy found increased risks of speech delay in children at age three. 

Homeopathy and lifestyle changes may help such patients by improving brain function and overall vitality, aiding in detoxification and addressing causes when they are known or suspected. In general, homeopathy does not treat conditions, but rather stimulates the individual's innate healing mechanisms.  

Speech Disorders and Developmental Disorders

Speech disorders are often related to other developmental issues. The child may be delayed in development or may have regressed as in autism. Many children with autism don't speak or have great difficulty speaking. Some children simply refuse to speak to some or all persons such as in selective mutism.

Many parents in my practice have reported speech regressing after head traumas, vaccines or antibiotics. Regression can happen immediately, with the child becoming very quiet, or gradually over time as auto-immune processes develop. ​

I have also now seen six children from several different families whose mothers took Diclectin while pregnant and who developed speech disorders. None of these children were exposed to antibiotics or vaccines so in these cases there appeared to be a direct correlation with Diclectin. 

I have seen good results helping children with constitutional homeopathic remedies as well as with 
remedies made from suspected substances, such as 

antibiotics, medications, pesticides, vaccines and more. Fish oil, other nutrients and essential oils such as Frankincense have also been reported as helpful.
