A LITTLE BACKGROUND

My father had only one useful arm. The other was left permanently paralyzed after he contracted polio at the age of thirteen while walking through a burning Berlin at the end of World War II. He spent months in an iron lung and almost died.

Growing up, I was inoculated against polio and other infectious diseases and remember feeling gratitude and reverence for vaccination, this miracle of modern medicine. Little did I know that decades later I would become an outspoken critic of current vaccination practices after several years of completely unexpected and shocking clinical experience with vaccine injuries.

TINUS SMITS AND AUTISM

It all started in the spring of 2011, when I bought a book titled Autism, Beyond Despair, by the Dutch medical doctor and homeopath Tinus Smits.1 I had been interested in autism since graduating from naturopathic college in 1991 and kept abreast of new publications. Over the years, I had treated many children with autism and other developmental disorders— sometimes with success, but sometimes with absolutely no results at all.

A couple of the failures still play on my mind to this day, including a little autistic boy who was severely hyperactive and smeared the walls and furniture with his feces when he was not climbing them. Nothing I tried helped him.

Tinus Smits described his experience of treating more than three hundred children with autism over thirty years using, among other things, homeopathic remedies made from vaccines. In his opinion, about 70 percent of children on the autism spectrum had been primarily affected by vaccines, and the rest predominantly by medications and chemicals. Most had been affected by multiple factors.
I could not put the book down, and when it was done, I had to deal with a huge and painful paradigm shift: Vaccines looked as if they could seriously harm children even though we were giving them to protect children.

HOMEOPATHY AND TAUTOPATHY

Homeopathy is based on the idea that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy organism can heal similar symptoms in a sick one. Of course, the remedies are used in homeopathic form and are for the most part so highly diluted as to be immaterial. There is a sub-branch of homeopathy called tautopathy, which uses—again, in homeopathic form—substances known or suspected to cause problems to address the same. For example, arsenic poisoning can be alleviated by using a homeopathic remedy made from arsenic. These remedies have been researched on animals2-7 and humans; trials are currently underway in India to use homeopathic arsenic to help people poisoned by arsenic-contaminated drinking water.8-11

We also have some interesting research looking at homeopathic preparations of cadmium,12,13 mercury14-18 and lead19 to help with toxicity from these heavy metals.
Getting back to vaccines—according to Tinus Smits, if a vaccine was suspected to have hurt a child or adult, a homeopathic remedy prepared from this vaccine could potentially help, rendering these homeopathic remedies not only therapeutic, but also diagnostic.
I soon took training to learn to use the Smits system properly. I met other practitioners doing the same work. We documented cases and exchanged information. It quickly became clear that vaccine injuries were pervasive in children and were disguised as many different illnesses and syndromes—allergies, asthma, hyperactivity, insomnia, diabetes, bowel and eating disorders, epilepsy, speech delays, sensory processing disorders, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tics, autism and even death. Something else that became apparent to us was that most vaccine injuries were delayed reactions, delayed on average by two to four months, an observation that has been confirmed from immunology.20

Since no vaccines on the childhood schedule have ever been tested for longer than a maximum of six weeks (the MMR vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella)—and most of them for only a few days—there is no “scientific” documentation of these delayed reactions. My personal estimate is that at least 90 percent of vaccine injuries are delayed reactions and therefore not recognized as such. In some cases, both immediate and delayed reactions appear. Thus the proportion of vaccine injuries due to immediate, severe reactions is relatively small, yet even so the Internet is full of tens of thousands of documented reports by individuals and parents from around the world describing their or their children’s descent into chronic illness after vaccines. The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program in the U.S. has paid out in excess of four billion dollars since its inception in 1986—and Harvard University has estimated that only about 1 percent of vaccine injuries ever get reported, never mind settled through the compensation program.21

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Touted by enthusiasts as harmless and a good way to relax after a long day, cannabis is the most commonly used recreational drug in the U.S. and many other parts of the world.

The flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant are used for their potential to induce feelings of euphoria (feeling high), a sense of well-being, relaxation and intensified sensory experiences. Colors are brighter, music is sweeter and food— oh, food tastes so good, you don’t want to stop eating! Pass the chocolate brownies, please.

Unfortunately, there is no free dessert in the world of mind-altering substances and that which goes up eventually must come down. From having a bad trip lasting a few hours to loss of motivation, lowered IQ and an increased risk of psychotic episodes, as well as transgenerational effects in the offspring of cannabis users, cannabis can turn into the gift that keeps on giving, and not in a nice way.

Enter the dark side of cannabis.

The Dementors

Alicia, a fourteen-year-old girl brought by her mother, consulted with me regarding social anxiety. She stated, “I got social anxiety after smoking grass every day for a couple of weeks. I smoked it before, but not every day. Now I feel kind of paranoid; I think people are looking at me and talking badly about me. I can’t look people in the eye when I’m out on the street, in the bus or in a store.”

As if that weren’t bad enough, Alicia had also started to have frightening nightmares. She said, “I dream of evil spirits and ghosts, coming to get me. They are trying to get down my throat. I want to scream but I can’t. They remind me of the Dementors in the Harry Potter movies, except that they are not trying to suck out my soul but rather get into my body.”

Not only that, but Alicia could feel those spirits flying around her home: “I can feel them around me, especially at night. They are flying through the house at great speed. It was so scary that I told my mom; she used a Bible and a rosary to try and exorcise them, and it kind of worked. I stopped smoking weed, but I still feel kind of paranoid. I also see things in the trees, like wolves—suddenly there is a face between the branches, looking at me and baring its teeth.”

Studies have shown that cannabis use can be linked to depression, anxiety and psychotic episodes, but it is not known whether marijuana is the cause or more of a trigger.1

This young girl may have been affected by the greatly increased potency of cannabis; over the past few decades, the amount of THC in marijuana has increased to three times what it was twenty-five years ago.1 She may also just have been more sensitive to its effects because of her young age. Cannabis can have more of an impact on teens and young adults, as their brains have not fully matured yet.

Alicia got a homeopathic preparation made from Cannabis indica and after a few doses, she started to feel better. However, she had to continue to use it for the next several years; every time she was exposed to cannabis smoke when her friends lit up she would experience some symptoms agani, even that level of exposure would re-trigger her social anxiety and paranoia symptoms.

A destroyed World and 'Everything is Out to Get me"

I saw another teenager, nineteen-year-old Emilio, because he wanted help quitting marijuana. He had been smoking pot continuously since age sixteen. He reported, “I’ve gone into a dark head space, isolated, alone in the universe. I feel lost. After smoking pot, I feel depressed and have angry thoughts, even homicidal thoughts. It makes me go crazy! I lose motivation. I feel small, like a little bug, not the same person. I’m really small and have no power, but I have to fight demons. I want to quit but it keeps sucking me in.”

Sometimes, things were beautiful. He noted, “I can have really positive dreams. A few months ago, I had a dream of a beautiful, French castle. I could see farms and sheep out of the window. There was a girl dancing the tango; it was like happily ever after.” But the castles had their pitfalls: “I’m in a black castle and I fall through holes, or a trap door in the dark. There are little gremlins walking around down there, with black eyes. It feels as if I’m in a game.” He added, “I’m in a post-apocalyptic dark area, a destroyed world, and everything is out to get me.”
Emilio got Cannabis indica 200C, 1M and 10M over the course of a few weeks. It helped him enormously with some of his dark thoughts and feelings as well as his nightmares, but he did not continue under my care, so I can’t be sure that it helped him to quit. Nonetheless, his experience provides a good description of the dark side of cannabis.
Cannabis can be like heaven or hell—lofty heights of beauty and sensory delights versus hellish apocalyptic realms filled with monsters and ghouls.

Homeopathic Cannabis

In homeopathy, remedies made from both Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa were introduced in 1841 by Dr. Charles Friedrich Trinks (1800–1868), a follower of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. It stands to reason that early homeopaths would have thought of creating a remedy from cannabis, as the intoxicating effects of the drug were well known.
In case any readers are new to homeopathy, it is helpful to recognize that homeopathy is based on the similarity principle, meaning that a substance that can produce certain symptoms in a healthy person may be used to heal similar symptoms in someone already experiencing such symptoms when given in homeopathic, potentized form. A homeopathic remedy made from cannabis does not contain a single molecule of actual cannabis in any potencies over 12C, it would just be an energetic imprint.
Even without prior use of cannabis, this can be a remedy for serious mental pathology. However, the need for this remedy has most certainly increased with the progressive legalization and rise in the use of cannabis.

Symptoms that may respond to homeopathic cannabis can include:

Panic attacks, great anxiety and fearfulness
Fear of insanity or “losing control”
Paranoia of all kinds
Feelings of disorientation and confusion;
Theorizing (e.g., has a million ideas and explanations)
Giddy, exhilarated and excited states;
Causeless laughter;
Delusions of all kinds
Lack of a sense of identity
Anger and rage
Behavior disorders in children; annoying, spacey, loquacious kids

Homeopathic cannabis can, therefore, be potentially helpful to relieve symptoms caused by the use of cannabis (as in the two cases described); to potentially aid in breaking a habit for or addiction to
Both Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa can be a remedy for serious mental pathology and breaking the habit for or addiction to cannabis; or to help offspring affected by cannabis.

Belladonna in Homeopathy

Belladonna, a homeopathic remedy derived from Deadly Nightshade, is a commonly used remedy in homeopathy, especially in pediatric practice. It is not only useful in sudden, high fevers, but in all kinds of sudden, intense symptoms as well as in chronic conditions that are acute in nature, such as chronic inflammatory states, including symptoms of brain inflammation associated with autism.

Reading about acute Deadly Nightshade poisoning can give us a better understanding of the indications for Belladonna as homeopathy is based on the principle of 'Like Cures Like.' Youtube is a treasure trove of information as people often leave comments about their personal experiences after videos. The below is a small collection of such comments.

Dizzy, blurred views of Life Frame by Frame

"Belladonna grows in my neighborhood in Torrance, CA. I ate one long ago. It does make you hallucinate, but it seriously upsets your stomach and you will regret ever eating one. The trip is one akin to a hopeless terror that you can't stop from experiencing along with terribly upset stomach that feels like your worst hangover.

I remember dry heaving and crying for the dizziness and nausea to stop and went to the ER when the neighbours discovered me curled up on the sidewalk crying. High Fever, Seizing and Hallucinating

"As a young teenager I made the mistake to drink a belladonna tea my friends had made. Worst mistake of my life. I spiked a high fever, started seizing all while hallucinating.

I remember feeling like I couldn't breathe and my throat felt like i swallowed actual pine needles. I absolutely needed an emergency room, but of course no one wanted to actually do anything and possibly get in trouble. I remember waking up the next day and I absolutely could not see or focus on anything for an entire week.

Belladonna Cigarettes

In the 60s there was a product that was reputed to aid in asthma and UR congestion...It was in the form of a Belladonna cigarette sold at pharmacies... you can't make this up. I don't remember the brand name, but several of us tried it out, expecting some psychoactive properties... we were disappointed.

The use of Belladonna in Homeopathy is based on the similarity principle, meaning that a substance that is able to cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can alleviate similar symptoms in a sick person.

And of course in homeopathy the remedies are prepared by sequential dilution and agitation, usually until none of the original molecules are left.

This makes the remedies very safe and somehow still very effective.

Homeopathic Belladonna is often used in sudden high fever with congestion of the head and headaches, dilated pupils, possible hallucinations, severely sore throats, great thirst, respiratory problems, all kinds of pain, gastric distress and more, non unlike the reports above. Fascinating stuff!

Hi Levels of Wireless Radiation and Developmental Delays

A new peer-reviewed study found that babies living in homes with high levels of wireless radiation — from Wi-Fi routers, cellphones, Bluetooth devices and nearby towers — were more than three times as likely to experience developmental delays compared with infants in lower-exposure homes.

The study of 105 infants in India showed that babies in high-exposure homes were:

3.6 times more likely to have problem-solving delays
2.7 times more likely to show fine motor delays
Nearly 3 times more likely to have social or emotional delays

Researchers noted that children’s brains absorb far more radiation than adults’ brains, making them especially vulnerable. High-exposure homes in the study measured 32.36 milliwatts per square metre (mW/m²) — far above what independent experts classify as safe.

What You Can Do

Parents can reduce risk by:

Turning off Wi-Fi at night
Using hard-wired internet when possible
Keeping phones and tablets away from children
Avoiding carrying phones on the body

“This should alert the public to a dire situation,” said Dr. Robert Brown of the Environmental Health Trust. “People need to wake up.”

It’s Time to Protect Our Children

Across the globe, children’s health is under unprecedented assault. Chronic disease is at record levels. Autism, asthma, allergies, obesity, autoimmune disorders, developmental delays—the list grows longer each year.

The drivers are clear: Toxic exposures in food, water, air, and everyday environments. From GMOs and pesticides, to polluted water, wireless radiation, and experimental drugs, children are bombarded with hazards they never chose—and cannot escape.

In October 2021, California lawmakers recognized the urgency by declaring it Children’s Environmental Health Month. But awareness is not enough. What our children need is protection codified into law—a Global Children’s Health Bill of Rights.

Dr. Michelle Perro, a pediatrician and leading children’s health advocate, has proposed just that. Updated in August 2025, her Bill identifies the top areas where urgent action is needed to safeguard the well-being of the next generation.

The Seven Essential Rights of Children’s Health

1. The Right to Clean, Organic, GMO- and Pesticide-Free Food

Since the mid-1990s, genetically engineered foods and toxic herbicides like glyphosate have quietly filled our children’s plates. Science shows these chemicals disrupt the gut, the immune system, and even brain development. Families worldwide—from rural Argentina to North America—are reporting devastating health effects. Children deserve food that heals, not harms.

2. The Right to Clean Water, Free of Pollutants

Tap water in North America alone contains hundreds of contaminants, including PFAS “forever chemicals,” arsenic, and fluoride—all linked to cancers, reproductive harm, and neurodevelopmental damage. Babies who rely on formula made with tap water are especially vulnerable. Clean, safe water is non-negotiable.

3. The Right to Clean Air

Air pollution contributes to hundreds of thousands of childhood deaths each year. Fossil fuels, incineration, wildfires, and even geoengineering activities release dangerous particulates and metals into the atmosphere. Children’s developing lungs and brains are uniquely at risk.

4. The Right to Protection from Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF) and 5G

Growing research links wireless radiation to cancer, neurological damage, and cognitive impairment in children. Yet schools, homes, and neighborhoods are saturated with Wi-Fi, smart devices, and 5G towers. Hardwired connections and safe tech practices can greatly reduce this risk.

5. The Right to Freedom from Experimental Medical Therapies

Children cannot give informed consent. Using them as test subjects for experimental drugs and technologies—like mRNA injections—violates medical ethics and the principle of “First, do no harm.” Protecting children from such experiments must be a global priority.

6. The Right to Protection from Environmental Toxicants, Including E-Waste

Children are exposed to hazardous chemicals from electronics waste, heavy metals, and industrial pollutants—sometimes even while scavenging for recyclables. These exposures damage DNA, disrupt hormones, and increase risk of lifelong chronic illness. Safer recycling and waste practices must be enforced.

7. The Right to Age-Appropriate Media and Freedom from Harmful Content

Excessive screen time, violent imagery, and inappropriate media exposure harm children’s mental, emotional, and social development. Clear boundaries and positive alternatives are needed to foster healthy growth.

A Call for a Global Shift

This Bill is not just a proposal—it’s a call to action. Protecting children requires a paradigm shift away from profit-driven industries and toward holistic, prevention-based care—an “ecomedicine” approach.
Every child deserves a chance to thrive. Every parent deserves the right to raise their children without invisible poisons undermining their health.
In summary: Protecting planetary health begins with protecting our children. Real change will only come when enforceable laws are enacted and those responsible are held accountable. Our children deserve nothing less. It’s time.

Angel's Trumpet, Devil's Trumpet

Datura stramonium is a strange and fascinating plant with powerful hallucinogenic and toxic properties. It has a long history of being used in various traditional spiritual and shamanic contexts - but ie extremely dangerous and potentially lethal. The plant in its crude form contains various alkaloids which can cause altered perception, delirium and extremely realistic hallucinations that tend to be confusing at best and terrifying at worst. It can also induce alternating states of euphoria with laughing followed by sadness and depression.

Let us explore this state by examining some of the experiences of people who intentionally or accidentally ingested the plant. I found a goldmine of this information in the comment section of a Youtube video on Stramonium.

As Stramonium is a remedy I often use for children on the autism spectrum, reading these comments may give the reader an idea of what it might be like to be autistic and to perceive the world as a very confusing and threatening place. This is not to say that Stramonium helps all children on the spectrum and is certainly not a cure-all, more commonly it is a layer remedy, usually one of dozens a child with autism may require for healing.

I felt as if I was having the same thought pattern over and over and over again and it was disconnected thoughts – where is my wallet? I can’t trust that person. Why do I fell so sick? I need to go to the bathroom. Where is my wallet? I don’t feel good. It was just the same thing over and over and over again. I was just delirious. But my body hurt, I didn’t feel good.

Many children on the spectrum appear to be stuck in recurring loops of thoughts and behaviours, this description may be similar to what they may be experiencing.

My mate was lost for 2 days, his mum had search planes and all looking for him. They found him in a tree.

I was a volunteer medic at a festival when i saw a young dude with a baggie full of Datura flowers bragging hard about how high he was going to get. I tried to warn him that what he was about to do was reckless at best, but he just brushed me off. Later that night the medic tent got a call. The same dude was naked, up a tree, covered in pee and feces, gibbering terrified nonsense and crying for his mommy. Datura is NO joke.

Many children on the spectrum cling to their parents, especially the mothers and especially at night. Many of them cannot sleep alone and need to be touching the parent all night. If the parent leaves the bed the child often wakes up looking for them.

I know of a guy who died after taking datura, he and some friends took it at a remote beach one night, he ended up walking into the water and swimming out into the sea he was never seen again, his friends were found wandering around in the coastal wilderness lost and confused a couple of days later.

Delusion, lost in the wilderness is a key symptom in Stramonium.

When we were young, we grabbed dozens flowers, a pot and made a fire. We cooked it and drank it. It tasted like hot mud. An hour later we were all dispersed in the mountains, under the moon, howling like wolves, delirious, chasing things. I forgot anything I did or said that night. Next day it took me hours to recover my sight, I was almost blinded by the sun! Horrible experience, never repeated.

Amnesia is a strong feature of the plant. I have seen many children who would have sudden attacks of violent rage and would not remember anything about what happened afterwards, while their families were in shock.

My brother created a tea from the roots, stems, and leaves of Datura after he was home from college (Arizona) many years ago. He said it was the most horrible drug experience of his life. He laid on the bed for 7 hours and every time he moved even a little, the world would go roaring by. No other hallucinations, but he was filled with feelings of terror the whole time. He didn't fully recover for several days and said he would never, ever touch that plant again.

Many children on the spectrum are sound sensitive, maybe this is how the also experience the world, roaring by and terrifying.

I chugged that bitter tea, thinking nothing would happen. Hours later, I was arguing with a streetlamp I swore was my childhood dog. Tried to order pizza from a tree. Spent the night naked in my bathtub fighting imaginary bees. Woke up swearing I’d never touch datura again.

Stramonium can have violence and fear of violence, in this case it was a delusion of being attacked by bees. Many parents of autistic children report that they seem to be seeing things the rest of the family does not, sometimes with great fear.

This isn't a recreational drug, and it's probably one of the few drugs that actually deserve the name "hallucinogenic" because they make one experience what is termed in psychiatry as "true hallucinations" - you talk to people who aren't there, use objects which don't exist, pass through chain link fences and solid walls (or so you think). "Deliriant" is another name albeit probably not the best one as delirium typically refers to one's experiences when having a high fever. 24 hours later, when I came to, it was one of the most depressing and despondent states I had ever experienced.

Alternating moods from joy and laughter for no reason to crying for no reason are frequently reported by parents of autistic children. The above describes the severe depression and despondency the plant can produce.

I keep encountering this narrative that the Datura is somehow terrible and deadly, while my trip was enlightening and informative and maybe not entirely pleasant but somewhat and also strangely fun.

As mentioned above, many parents of autistic children report their child laughing and having fun for no apparent reason, just staring at the wall for example.

I can tell you that your eyes don't come back as fast as your brain after the trip , i couldn't read or write because words danced for weeks.

Many children on the spectrum have a great deal of trouble learning how to read, perhaps they do see the words dancing or moving like this person described.

I know a guy that took it in a professional ceremony. He went blind for months, couldn't have have a boner for 18 years, and says he can talk to plants now. that being said he is an amazing master gardener now.

I took datura once, went to sleep and woke up in the morning. Nothing happened... Then one of my friends showed me a recording of me trying to literally climb the walls inside of my house for hours on end. Its strong be careful.

Another example of the amnesia the plant can produce. Another common symptom parents of children on the spectrum frequently report is that their child can't remember and learn things. That they easily forget what they have just learned.

Conclusion

Homeopathy and Coronavirus Vaccines

This article addresses three questions:

What data are available on injuries and deaths from Covid injections?
What kinds of symptoms have been reported from the shots, and what concerns do scientists and doctors have?
Which homeopathic remedies may be helpful to assist affected individuals with immediate, intermediate and potential long-term adverse events following injection?

Adverse Event Data From Covid-19 Vaccinations

The U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is the passive surveillance system co-managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As compiled by Children’s Health Defense in The Defender, from December 14, 2020 to February 18, 2022, VAERS data showed over 1.1 million reported adverse events (1,134,984) across all age groups following Covid vaccines.1 Over one hundred ninety-six thousand—about 17 percent—of the reported injuries were classified as “serious,” including over twenty-four thousand deaths. (The Defender summarizes the weekly releases of VAERS data every Friday.)

VAERS includes both U.S. reports and some foreign reports sent to U.S. vaccine manufacturers by foreign subsidiaries.2 With foreign reports excluded, domestic adverse events exceeded seven hundred sixty-seven thousand through February 18—over seventy-three thousand of them rated as “serious”—including over eleven thousand one hundred deaths.1

The February 18 VAERS data showed, for all age groups combined, that many of the deaths and injuries were cardiac-related, with over sixteen hundred reported myocardial infarctions and over four thousand reported cases of myocarditis and pericarditis. Almost one in five deaths (19 percent) were due to a cardiac disorder. In addition, the injured reported well over thirteen thousand blood clotting disorders. Other widely reported conditions following Covid injections include Bell’s palsy (over thirty-five hundred reports), life-threatening or fatal anaphylaxis (over twenty-three hundred) and Guillain-Barré syndrome (eight hundred fifty).

Although the average age of death was about seventy-two, VAERS also reveals deaths in children and adolescents, including (again, as of February 18) four reported deaths (and over eighty-five hundred adverse events) in children ages five through eleven, and thirty-nine reported deaths (and nearly thirty thousand injuries) in teens ages twelve through seventeen. Sadly, adverse event reports among pregnant women numbered well over five thousand, including over sixteen hundred miscarriages or premature births.1

To put these numbers into perspective, VAERS has, in a little over a year, received more reports of injuries and deaths after Covid shots than the system accumulated in the previous thirty years for all other vaccines combined— including twice as many reported deaths.3

Moreover, a three-year, U.S. government-funded review by Harvard of data from seven hundred fifteen thousand patients found that “fewer than 1% of vaccine adverse events are reported.”4 This could mean that a hundredfold more adverse vaccine events could be occurring than are reported to VAERS. The CDC has nonetheless refused to mandate, automate or otherwise improve VAERS reporting.5,6

In Australia, the Database of Adverse Event Notification (DAEN) collects information about adverse events related to both medicines and vaccines.7 According to the analysis and expert testimony of statistician Lisa Mitchell, DAEN received—for calendar year 2021 (Jan. 1 through Dec. 31)—reports of over one hundred thousand adverse events (100,180) following Covid mRNA injections, including seven hundred thirty-three deaths.8 Mitchell writes, “The number of adverse events reported to this database regarding non-Covid vaccines from Jan 1, 1971 to Dec of 2021, a time span of 50 years, were 19,330 in total with 59 reported deaths. This makes Covid vaccines 36 times more lethal than conventional vaccines.” As in the U.S., top categories of adverse events included neurological and cardiovascular disorders as well as “injection site reactions.”

An Existential Threat to our Country

The U.S. healthcare system is “an existential threat to our country,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday told members of a congressional roundtable on nutrition and the prevalence of chronic illness.

“Every major pillar of the U.S. healthcare system as a statement of economic fact makes money when Americans get sick,” Kennedy said. “The most valuable asset in this country today is a sick child.”

Kennedy, founder and chairman on leave of Children’s Health Defense (CHD), joined a lineup of prominent doctors and medical professionals, scientists, nutritionists and academic researchers who participated in the roundtable, which was hosted by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).

CHD CEO Mary Holland, who attended the roundtable, told The Defender:

“Sen. Johnson’s roundtable on health and nutrition was both devastating and inspiring. Devastating because our food system is so corrupt and harmful to health, and inspiring because the speakers and those assembled were so passionate about turning things around quickly.

“All shared the view that these problems are man-made and can be corrected — by individuals in terms of diet, by Congress in terms of law and by health agencies intent on protecting people instead of profits.”

‘Why are we allowing this to happen to our children?’

According to Kennedy, U.S. government spending on healthcare is high — for poor results.

“While American life expectancy plummets, we spend 4 times per capita more on healthcare than the Italians, but Italians live 7.5 years longer than us on average. During the COVID epidemic, [the U.S. had] the highest body count of any country in the world. We had 17% of the COVID deaths [with] 4.2% of the world’s population. We literally had the worst record of any country in the world,” Kennedy said.

“All this should have been a blaring wake-up call about our weakened American immune systems,” Kennedy said.

He cited figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showing the average American who died from COVID-19 had, on average, 3.8 chronic diseases. “No other country has anything like this,” Kennedy said.

According to Kennedy, two-thirds of U.S. adults and children suffer from chronic health problems, compared to 1% 50 years ago.

“In Japan, the childhood obesity rate is 3%. Half of Americans have pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes. When I was 10 years old and my uncle was president, a typical pediatrician would see one case of Type 2 juvenile diabetes during his 40- or 50-year career. Today, one out of every three children … is diabetic or pre-diabetic,” he said.

He also called out the rising rates of autism in children and mental health issues in teens.
“Why are we allowing this to happen to our children?” he asked. “These are the most precious assets that we have in this country. … How can we call ourselves a moral nation, the exemplary democracy in the world, if we are treating our children like this?”

'We are literally poisoning our children systematically for profit’

There are “two culprits” primarily responsible for the chronic disease epidemic in the U.S., Kennedy said — ultra-processed foods and toxic chemicals in food, medicine and the environment.

“Seventy percent of American children’s diets is now ultra-processed, which means industrial manufactured in a factory. These foods consist primarily of processed sugar, ultra-processed grain and seed oils.”

Laboratory scientists, “many of whom were formerly working for the cigarette industry,” developed new chemicals and techniques “to make our food more addictive,” including the developments of ingredients and additives that “didn’t exist a hundred years ago.”

“Hundreds of these chemicals are now banned in Europe, but they’re ubiquitous in American processed foods. We are literally poisoning our children systematically for profit,” Kennedy said. “Pesticides, food additives, pharmaceutical drugs and toxic waste permeate every cell in our bodies.”

Kennedy noted that the average age of puberty today in the U.S. is the lowest in the world — and is six years younger than it was in 1900.

He said:

“Many of these chemicals increase estrogen, because young children are ingesting so many of these hormone disruptors. America’s fertility rate has now dropped. Sperm counts in teens are about 50% of what they were a couple of generations ago, and testosterone rates have dropped.”

Dr. Chris Palmer, an expert on mental and metabolic health, told the panel, “These chronic diseases … are in fact metabolic dysfunction. The cause is … a toxic environment, like poor diet and exposure to harmful chemicals.”

'Shocking'

Palmer called it “shocking” that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows food manufacturers to introduce new chemicals into the food supply without adequate testing. “The manufacturers are allowed to determine for themselves whether this substance is safe for you and your family to eat,” Palmer said.

According to Jason H. Karp, founder and CEO of HumanCo, “Our FDA uses an innocent-until-proven-guilty approach for new chemicals or ingredients that’s known as GRAS, or ‘generally recognized as safe.’ This recklessly allows new chemicals into our food system until they are proven harmful.”

Panelists said that while the consumption of ultra-processed foods is encouraged, foods that were traditionally part of the human diet are under attack.

“The dangers of ultra-processed foods continue to be suppressed while the fear-mongering of nutrient-dense whole foods, such as red meat and eggs, continues,” said journalist Max Lugavere. He blamed “a coordinated effort between the food industry and the upper echelons of academia and nutrition science.”

Eighteen-year-old activist and filmmaker Grace Price told the panel that young people are demonized for their health issues, even though those issues are the result of a contaminated food supply — and regulatory corruption.

“Adults wonder why we are on pills for depression, ADHD [attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder] and obesity, but the answer is glaring at us.” Price said. “Just look at the most recent food pyramid that was released. Lucky Charms cereal is ranked higher than ground beef.”

Price also noted that 95% of the members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) dietary guidelines advisory committee in 2020 were found to have conflicts of interest with Big Food and Big Pharma.

Participants also addressed the use of toxic pesticides such as glyphosate and the prevalence — and dangers — of genetically modified crops.

Nutritionist Courtney Swan told the panel that in 1974, the U.S started spraying crops with glyphosate, “and in the early 1990s, we began to see the release of genetically modified foods into our food supply. You can assume that if it’s not organic, it is likely contaminated with glyphosate.”

Regulatory agencies transformed ‘into predators against the American people’

For Kennedy, regulatory capture places young people and future generations in peril.

“We are destroying our kids and we’re doing it because we’re being manipulated to do it through all of the institutions of government,” Kennedy said, noting that 75% of FDA funding comes not from taxpayers, but from Big Pharma.

“The FDA, the USDA and CDC are all controlled by giant for-profit corporations. Their function is no longer to improve and protect the health of Americans. Their function is to advance the mercantile and commercial interests of the pharmaceutical industry,” Kennedy said.

Dr. Marty Makary said regulatory capture and lobbying created a healthcare system focused on bureaucratic procedure instead of protecting health.

“We are so busy in our healthcare system billing and coding and paying each other … Every stakeholder has their gigantic lobby in Washington, D.C., and everybody’s making a lot of money except … the American citizen,” Makary said.

Brigham Buhler, founder of regenerative clinic Ways2Well, said the cost of the chronic disease epidemic for society goes beyond just “dollars and cents.” He said healthcare costs are “the No. 1 reason for bankruptcy” in the U.S. and that such costs are ultimately “paid in human lives.”

According to Kennedy, “If America fails, the chief reason will be because we let our country get sicker, more depressed, fatter, more infertile at an increasing rate while crippling our national security.”

He added:

“The good news is that we can change all this, and we can change it very, very, very quickly. It starts with taking a sledgehammer to corruption, to the conflicts in our regulatory agency and in this building. These conflicts have transformed our regulatory agencies into predators against the American people — and particularly our children.”

Johnson said those who have sounded the alarm on the epidemic of chronic illness have been demonized, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“Those who seriously question the current orthodoxy or offer alternative treatments and approaches are generally ridiculed, vilified and canceled, with concerted effort made to destroy their reputations and careers.

“We all witnessed this during the pandemic, as eminently qualified and respected doctors who had the courage and compassion to treat COVID patients using cheap generic drugs were fired, sued, and either lost their medical licenses and certifications or had them seriously threatened.”

Makary said that while what he described as the “misinformation police” have targeted doctors, scientists and others who questioned official policies, “the greatest perpetrator of misinformation has been the United States government.”

Describing this as a “spiritual battle,” Kennedy said American society possesses an “inherent resilience” that may help it overcome the current health crisis.

“As long as we have that resilience, we’re always going to bounce back. As Americans, we’re not going to do that if our kids all have chronic disease.”

Society's Cost for Autism

The societal costs of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the U.S. are projected to reach $589 billion per year by 2030, $1.36 trillion per year by 2040 and $5.54 trillion per year by 2060 if steps are not taken to prevent the disorder, according to a study published last month.

The paper, “Autism Tsunami: The Impact of Rising Prevalence on the Societal Cost of Autism in the United States,” was first published in 2021, in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders (JADD). It was retracted almost two years later by the publisher and editor, citing “concerns” with methodology and the authors’ “non-financial interests.”

Last month, Science, Public Health Policy and the Law peer-reviewed and republished the study — the first to project present and future costs of ASD that links rising costs to the increasing prevalence of the disorder.

The authors found that previous studies, which didn’t account for increasing prevalence, tended to overestimate current costs — because they assumed prevalence rates among adults are the same as rates among children — and underestimate future costs associated with a growing autistic population with shifting care needs.

Researchers Mark Blaxill, Cynthia Nevison, Ph.D., and Toby Rogers, Ph.D., projected future ASD costs in three scenarios: a base case scenario assuming the continuation of existing trends; a low scenario providing a conservative estimate of future costs; and a prevention scenario exploring possibility of future mitigation of environmental causes.

But these two premises of the paper — that prevalence is increasing and that environmental intervention is possible — made a straightforward modeling paper controversial and were the basis of the “concerns” raised that led to its retraction.

Those premises ran counter to the deeply held assumptions of the autism research and treatment industry, which continues to sidestep the issue of increasing prevalence and holds that autism is primarily a genetic and not an environmental disease.

U.S. could surpass 6% rates of ASD in children in 2024, 7% in 2032

To build their model, the researchers estimated four key parameters: the historic and future prevalence of ASD, the future size of the ASD population, the cost per individual over the course of a lifetime, and inflation projections.

Prevalence projections were based on the California Department of Developmental Services caseload data from 1931 to 2016. The researchers used U.S. Census Bureau population predictions to translate prevalence into actual numbers of people with autism. They multiplied those by different cost categories partitioned by age group and severity of ASD and applied an inflation index to their projections.

Nevison told The Defender this approach to calculating future costs was built on previous models that similarly identified cost categories and multiplied them by autism populations in each age group.
“But we used a more sophisticated prevalence model, and that provided an advance over previous work,”she said.

Their ASD prevalence model showed that based on current trends, the U.S. could surpass 6% rates of ASD in children born in 2024 and 7% born in 2032, and then would likely rise more slowly after that. This differed from previous models, which predicted continuous exponential growth.

Costs associated with ASD included “non-medical services” like community care and day programs, individual and parent productivity losses, estimated special education costs, early and behavioral intervention and medical costs.

Rising prevalence itself makes costs go up, the study showed, but so does the fact that the mix of costs changes over time as the autism population ages and has different care needs.

As people age, their needs change, Blaxill told The Defender, “You’re dealing with education and parental loss productivity in the early years, and you’re dealing with residential services and medical care and lost adult productivity of disabled people. So it’s a whole different profile.”

As the first generation of parents of children of the autism epidemic, who shouldered much of the burden of care-taking, begin to die around 2040, according to the study, costs of care that had been borne by them will shift onto state and federal governments.

The cost increase, Blaxill said, “is radical, it will cost $5 trillion a year.”

Nevison told The Defender that for their “prevention” scenario they looked to an existing example with good data where ASD rates had gone down.

She and a colleague published that research in JADD in 2020, showing that while ASD rates, which had increased for all U.S. children across birth years 1993-2000, either plateaued or declined among white families living in wealthy counties, suggesting those families made changes that lowered their children’s risk of ASD.

“The Prevention scenario assumes that these parental strategies and opportunities already used by wealthy parents to lower their children’s risk of ASD can be identified and made available rapidly to lower-income children and ethnic minorities, who are currently experiencing the most rapid growth in ASD prevalence,” the “Autism Tsunami” authors wrote.

The paper does not indicate what those changes may have been, but Blaxill told The Defender they hypothesized the changes happened among families who followed alternative vaccination schedules and other lifestyle changes.

Even in the prevention scenario, the paper found, the cost of ASD will skyrocket to $3.7 ± 0.8 trillion annually by 2060 because it still needs to account for the demographic momentum of the large ASD population born over the last three decades.

The authors concluded that rising autism rates must be taken seriously as a public health and economic policy issue.

“Paradoxically, the future costs of autism loom so large that, rather than responding with a sense of urgency as one might expect, policymakers thus far have generally failed to engage with the policy implications at all,” the authors wrote.

“We hope this paper will serve as a wake-up call for the public health emergency that the societal cost of autism represents to the economic future of the U.S.”

A ‘digital scarlet letter for eternity’

After the paper “sailed through peer review” at JADD, and became one of the journal’s most downloaded papers, there was immediate pushback, particularly in articles posted on the Spectrum News website (now The Transmitter). Former JADD Editor-in-Chief Fred Volkmar launched an investigation into the study based on concerns raised.

One article on Spectrum even included a Twitter post that implied the authors’ idea of prevention was “eugenics,” an accusation the authors told The Defender was extremely shocking and hurtful and clearly an attempt to “cancel” them.

Rogers told The Defender, and detailed in a Substack post, that they had expected some negative response from gatekeepers, “because we broke new ground and the autism debate is always fraught in this country.”

But, he said, he and his co-authors were surprised when they were informed that Volkmar solicited new critical reviews and gave them one week to respond.
Rogers said in retrospect they realized “the die was cast at that point” and a decision had been made to undermine the article. However, the researchers “naively believed” they could provide rigorous responses to the reviews, which offered “nothing substantive” and the publication would stand.

The retraction statement indicated there were methodological concerns along with concerns that the authors, Blaxill, editor-at-large for Age of Autism and chief financial officer of the Holland Center, Nevison, a former board member of SafeMinds, and Rogers, who writes the uTobian Substack and according to Spectrum had “written for the Children’s Health Defense Fund,” had not revealed their “non-financial” conflicts of interest.

According to Spectrum News these “undeclared conflicts” were the authors’ “anti-vaccine” views. Blaxill and Nevison had both previously published papers in JADD, with no similar concerns raised.

The authors noted in their response to reviewers, that the concerns enumerated by Volkmar mirrored those in Spectrum’s “hostile blog post.”

Spectrum News is fully funded by the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI), from which Volkmar has received millions in research funding.

SFARI has a budget of over $100 million per year and since 2003 has dedicated almost $1 billion to autism research. That funding is largely dedicated to research focusing on the genetic basis for autism.

Rogers wrote, “The Simons Foundation has largely captured the field of autism research and they have hundreds of academics who are dependent on their largesse.”

“Rather than change direction based on new information the Simons Foundation doubled down on their wrongheaded strategy and they put the word out that ‘this article needs to get got,’” he added.

The authors also noted that no researcher in the history of JADD had listed a personal belief as an “undisclosed non-financial conflict of interest,” and that their premise that the rise in autism numbers is real and is primarily driven by environmental factors is a legitimate scientific viewpoint shared by others.

The authors also responded in detail to what they deemed to be minor comments by three reviewers.

Yet, the journal decided to retract the article, attaching what Rogers described as “a digital scarlet letter for eternity, ‘RETRACTED!’”

“The whole process has been weaponized to serve power and money and nobody’s standing up for, or very few people are standing up for good science and proper methods and scientific norms and all that stuff that we would expect to be foundational to all this sort of thing,” Rogers told The Defender.

“We are being censored because of a word that does not even appear in the article — vaccines,” Rogers wrote.

“The unstated implication about the California study was that those parents were likely operating on different vaccine schedules or skipping vaccines. The public health agencies never investigated this trend,” Rogers said, “because they are scared that they might find an association between vaccines and autism.”

He added: “This cowardly act of censorship by JADD and Springer [its publisher] is a stunning admission of guilt by the mainstream gatekeepers. They simply cannot have a conversation about the facts because they know that they will lose. Censorship is all that they have left.”

Study predictions proving true

Since “Autism Tsunami” was first published, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network, which conducts biannual surveillance of ASD prevalence, has issued two reports confirming a continued rise in ASD rates.

When the CDC first began collecting data in 2000, rates were 1 in 150 children diagnosed with ASD. In the 2021 report, the ADDM found that 1 in 44 or 2.27% of American 8-year-olds had ASD and in the 2023 report, it found that 1 in 36 (2.8%) 8-year-old children — 4% of boys and 1% of girls have ASD.

ADDM also reported that autism prevalence was higher among Black, Hispanic and Asian/Pacific Islander children than among white and biracial children.

Yet the CDC continues to suggest that the numbers “might reflect improved screening, awareness and access to services” rather than actual growing rates.

Nevison told The Defender that given these growing rates, she is very concerned about the future of those living with ASD, especially given that it is already apparent that public services are unable to keep up with the needs of children on the autistic spectrum.

In her own school district, there is a critical shortage of educators who could serve children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), many of whom have ASD.

Data from the U.S. Department of Education indicate this is a national problem — 42 states and Washington, D.C., have fewer special education teachers than schools need. Many children in special education are diagnosed with ASD.

Shortage of adult facilities already a reality in Massachusetts

“Autism Tsunami” pointed to the fact that the growing numbers of children diagnosed with ASD over the last few decades are or will be soon entering adulthood and will need different, and expensive, services from those provided by the already stretched Department of Education, such as residential care.

A new investigation on residential care for people with ASD published last week by the Boston Globe reported that the numbers predicted by “Autism Tsunami” are already materializing in Massachusetts.

“A record number of children with intellectual disabilities or autism turn 22 years old this year and qualify for adult services with the Department of Developmental Services,” the Globe wrote.

That number has doubled in the past 10 years to more than 1,430 people “driven by the tremendous increase in children with autism. Autistic children now account for more than half of these new adults.”

“There has been very little planning to prepare for this,” Michael Borr, the parent of an adult son with autism and former chairman of Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts, told The Globe.

In the past, Borr said, “I would talk about the tsunami that is coming. It’s not coming any more; it’s here.”

The Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, which licenses and runs group homes, last year informed the legislature that it has an “extremely limited” capacity to provide housing to autistic adults who have different needs than their typical clients.

The Globe investigation also found that many hundreds of children and adults with autism in residential schools have been physically assaulted or neglected at residences with low-paid and poorly trained caregivers.

The newspaper provided several examples of serious assaults on non-verbal residents by caregivers.

Massachusetts group homes for adults have more than 4,000 vacancies for direct care staff, which is more than one-quarter of the necessary workforce.

And “while federal law guarantees special education services for disabled children, adult services are largely dependent on eligibility criteria and funding,” according to The Globe, leading to a lot of uncertainty for the aging parents of autistic young adults.

Blaxill told The Defender that without interventions to slow ASD prevalence rates, “It’s going to grow so fast, it’ll break the system. If we go from maybe 1 or 2 million people — most of them children with autism — to 10, 15, or 20 million people with autism — most of them adults — that’s a dramatically different service population and cost problem and cost profile.”

Blaxill, who also is the parent of an autistic child, said the problem isn’t only the cost, but for people with ASD, “The parents are their advocate. We take care of them. But we’re all getting old.”

He said he’s constantly worried for his daughter’s future. “When we’re gone, who’s going to watch over her? Who’s going to advocate for her with the state? Who’s going to protect her from abuse or violence?”

“It’s a crisis,” he said.

The major barrier to confronting this crisis, Rogers told The Defender, isn’t just Big Pharma. There is an entire autism industry that has sprung up that includes pharma, but also researchers, nonprofits, academic journals and more, he said.

“That industry is worth upwards of a trillion dollars and they don’t want to have a conversation about root causes or prevention. They want to make money from the disease industry.”

Acetaminophen/Tylenol and Autism

Acetaminophen, the ingredient found in hundreds of prescription and over-the-counter medicines — including Tylenol products — is routinely recommended for fever reduction and the relief of mild to moderate pain.

The link between acetaminophen and liver toxicity was established some time ago. But the drug’s effect on the developing nervous system in children — though suspected — was never formally investigated through a clinical study, according to William Parker, Ph.D., CEO of the nonprofit research firm WPLab.

Now, Parker’s new deep literature review has uncovered troubling associations between acetaminophen at typical pediatric doses and serious, likely permanent impairments in cognition and socialization in susceptible children.

The study, published last month in Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics, focused specifically on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

In an interview with The Defender, Parker said one reason safety signals went unnoticed for years is that investigators were not looking at the right studies. “Most research to date has focused on acetaminophen use during pregnancy,” he said.

That makes sense, as developing fetuses are particularly vulnerable to drug-related (and other) toxicities.

“But no more than 20% of cases of ASD result from maternal use during pregnancy,” Parker said. “And the real number is probably more like 10% or even less. By far the greatest danger from this drug occurs after the child is born.”

Study identified 2 significant milestones suggesting link between acetaminophen and ASD

Parker has spent close to a decade tracking evidence connecting acetaminophen exposure early in life to ASD in susceptible babies and children.

His latest work examines 20 lines of evidence based on animal studies, connections between ASD and acetaminophen use, associations between acetaminophen and ASD through time, and what was already known about acetaminophen toxicity.
The main takeaways from animal studies:

Long-term brain damage and behavioral changes occur following exposure to acetaminophen early in life, at doses similar or equal to those recommended for children.
Acetaminophen affects the brains of male rats more than female rats; ASD also affects human males more than females.
Acetaminophen kills brain cells in adult test animals at doses lower than required to cause liver damage.

Separately, Parker and coworkers tracked the incidence of ASD by year, noting two significant milestones that correlated with increases in its prevalence.

The first was the national campaign to replace aspirin with acetaminophen, which began in 1982 and continued in earnest for several years thereafter.

The second event was a substantial increase in direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising (DTCPA) which began in earnest in 1981 but did not gain traction until after 1990.

DTCPA increased from around $12 million in 1980, when it was still highly regulated, to $47 million in 1990, then $340 million in 1995 and $5 billion in 2006. DTCPA has leveled off in recent years, to just under $7 billion per year in 2021.

The pediatric research Parker reviewed reinforced his findings from the animal studies. To summarize:

Despite its demonstrated toxicity to the nervous system in newborn laboratory animals, acetaminophen was tested in babies only for acute side effects, and not for nervous system development.
Circumcision, for which acetaminophen is often taken as a painkiller, is associated with a dramatic increase in the risk for ASD.
An unexpectedly high incidence of ASD was found in South Korea, where pediatric acetaminophen products often contained quantities of the drug that exceed recommended levels.
Analysis of 61,430 babies in the Danish National Birth Cohort uncovered an increased risk of ASD of up to 66% after postnatal exposure to acetaminophen.
Acetaminophen administered to reduce vaccine side effects was associated with ASD, even when vaccination alone was not.
Factors known to enhance the toxicity of acetaminophen were associated with a higher risk of ASD. Genetics, for example, may affect an individual’s ability to eliminate acetaminophen from the body before it can cause harm.
Oxidative stress can also exacerbate the drug’s effects. Conditions that induce oxidative stress include infections and various drug treatments. Parker noted that fasting enhances acetaminophen toxicity, a potential problem when a baby is too sick to eat.
Acetaminophen use in early childhood is associated with a dramatic increase in ASD based on a small, case-controlled study.
Many of the cognitive and social hallmarks of ASD are also seen temporarily in adults who have taken acetaminophen.

Brain is ‘main target’ organ for toxicity in newborns

This evidence was previously obscured for a variety of reasons. Some studies were simply ignored in literature reviews while others, including those connecting ASD and circumcision, never mentioned acetaminophen as a potential issue.

In another example, widespread accidental overdoses of acetaminophen in Korea were never connected with the country’s otherwise inexplicably high rates of ASD.

“Many healthcare industry professionals find it inconceivable that one of the most popular drugs ever is causing one of society’s thorniest behavioral problems,” Parker told The Defender.

“If they had employed investigative techniques similar to those used by law enforcement, rather than a reductionist biomedical approach, they probably would have noticed these connections much sooner,” Parker said.

He added: “A report that children with severe ASD could not safely process acetaminophen had already been published in 1999, but its significance was missed entirely, even by the study’s authors.”

The connection between ASD and acetaminophen use during vaccination was eventually identified in a 2008 study. However, according to Parker, “That study was largely ignored, with no follow-up from the National Institutes of Health, the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention], or the Pediatric Academy.”

In addition, most investigations on the effects of acetaminophen on the brains of infants and small children tended to focus on prenatal exposure which, although risky, accounts for just a small percentage of the neurologic damage caused by acetaminophen, according to Parker.

“And most of these focus on liver function, despite the fact that the brain rather than the liver is the main target organ for toxicity in newborns.”

A mother’s liver processes acetaminophen extremely efficiently, particularly during pregnancy. But newborns are deficient in a metabolic process, “glucuronidation,” involved in acetaminophen metabolism, which is why the association between ASD and acetaminophen use is stronger for postnatal as opposed to prenatal exposure.

Cats, interestingly, also have this metabolic disadvantage.
“Veterinarians know that there is no safe dose of acetaminophen for a cat. It’s profoundly troubling that pediatricians don’t know this about babies,” Parker said.

Available over the counter and also in 600+ prescriptions for kids, adults

Acetaminophen was discovered in 1878, and first identified as a possible analgesic at some point over the next ten to fifteen years. Due to the availability of other, presumably more effective medications, the drug was forgotten until the late 1940s, when it was rediscovered as a painkiller.

Acetaminophen became available in the U.S. by prescription only in 1953 and was launched by McNeil Laboratories in 1955 as Tylenol elixir, a pediatric analgesic available only by prescription.

Johnson & Johnson, after acquiring McNeil Laboratories, received approval in 1959 to market pediatric Tylenol formulations over the counter (OTC), and by 1961, Tylenol tablets for adults also entered the market as an OTC drug. By 1976, Tylenol had become the leading OTC pain reliever in the U.S.

More than 600 OTC and prescription pharmaceuticals, for both adults and children, contain acetaminophen. Although its main effects are fever reduction and pain relief, acetaminophen is often combined with other active ingredients to treat allergies, colds and cold symptoms, flu, and even sleeplessness.

Acetaminophen also is often combined with prescription painkillers to treat moderate to severe pain.

Acetaminophen use is associated with mild to moderate side effects that are common with OTC medicines, including agitation, constipation, headaches, insomnia, itchy skin and stomach irritation.

But many of those same symptoms are signs of serious liver injury, which for decades has been the most noted and studied side effect of the drug, particularly in individuals who consume alcoholic beverages or who take more than the recommended dose.

And, as Parker pointed out, babies are not just “small adults” when it comes to drug interactions.

“The antibiotic chloramphenicol is safe for adults, but caused the deaths of numerous infants in 1959.”

Acetaminophen has followed a similar trajectory.

Parker’s research showed that during the 1970s, when pediatricians were investigating the safe use of acetaminophen in babies and children, they almost exclusively focused on liver damage, not realizing that the drug primarily affects a baby’s brain, not their liver.
“Acetaminophen rapidly kills laboratory rat pups without hurting their livers, a fact that nobody knew when they started putting this into babies,” Parker said.

That the World Health Organization lists both acetaminophen (under the trade name paracetamol) and the antidote for acetaminophen overdoses as “essential medicines” is itself telling.

California's Autism Epidemic Worse Than Ever

On June 29, 2015, then-governor of California Jerry Brown signed into law California Senate Bill 277. The law, which took effect on July 1, 2016, removed the personal belief/religious exemption to vaccination for children attending public and private schools and daycare centers. SB 277 was followed by SB 276 and its companion bill SB 714 which limited the ability of doctors to grant medical exemptions for childhood vaccinations. Both of those bills were signed into law by California’s Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019.1 2 3

The elimination of all but medical exemptions to vaccination in California during the past eight years, and particularly the state’s oversight authority over the granting of medical exemptions by doctors, has made that state perhaps the strictest (some might say “draconian”) in the country in terms of its childhood vaccination laws. Other states that only allow for medical exemptions to vaccinations for schoolchildren include Connecticut, Maine, Mississippi, New York and West Virginia, but they appear to be less restrictive toward physicians granting them.4 5 6 7

Childhood Vaccination Rates in California Rose After SB 277

As a result of SB 277, the percentage of children entering kindergarten in California who received all the required vaccines went up from 92.8 percent in 2015-2016 to 95.6 percent in 2016-2017. Reportedly due to parents seeking more medical exemptions for their children, the percentage of fully vaccinated kindergartners in the state dropped slightly to 95.1 percent in 2017-2018 and 94.8 percent in 2018-2019 just prior to the declaration of a COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. in early 2020.8 9 10

During the 2018-2019 school year, 4,812 kindergartners in California received medical exemptions from vaccines. This represented a 70 percent increase from 2016-2017 when SB 277 took effect. “It’s alarming that you’re having increasing numbers of medical exemptions,” said pediatrician James Campbell, MD. “You cannot imagine that that number of additional people now have new medical problems.”10

What probably happened is that many parents in California who were no longer able to obtain vaccine exemptions based on personal belief turned to the only other option they had for protecting their children from a medical procedure they had reason to believe might harm them. Some of these children may have had previous vaccine reactions or severe allergies or immune system problems that caused their parents to be more cautious about vaccination. To understand this concern by parents, you have to take into consideration the childhood autism epidemic that has been especially plaguing California since the 1990s and continues to this day.

According to an article in The Sacramento Bee published on July 18, 2016, autism rates for children attending public schools in California had increased seven-fold since 2001. More than 97,000 public schoolchildren in the state were diagnosed as autistic in 2015-2016—6,500, or seven percent, more than in 2014-2015. In 2016, 1 in 65 kindergartners in California was classified as having autism. Based on data from the California Department of Education, the article noted that the number of autistic students in California had risen by 5,000 to 7,000 every year since 2006.11

In 2011, a study done by the independent public non-profit Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health estimated the number of public schoolchildren with autism in California had risen from 7,508 in 2002 to 59,690 in 2010. In other words, an increase of more than 12-fold from 2002 to 2015-2016.12

So regardless of what health authorities in California may have thought about a possible link between vaccines and autism, the alarming continuing steady rise in childhood autism rates awakened concerns among a growing number of parents regarding vaccines and their side effects. The push by California legislators to eliminate the personal belief exemption to vaccination in 2015 left many parents desperate, searching for doctors willing to provide medical exemptions for their children. The other alternative was to simply pick up and move their families to other states with less oppressive mandatory vaccination requirements.

CDC Estimates 1 in 22 Children With Autism in California

On Mar. 23, 2023, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published an analysis in its epidemiological digest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) that determined the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among children eight years old in the U.S. to be 1 in 36. The analysis was based on data collected in 2020 by the surveillance program known as the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network in 11 states, including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin. Of these, California had the highest prevalence of ASD, with a whopping 1 in 22 eight-year-old children diagnosed with autism.13 14 15 16

The median age for the first autism diagnosis for eight-year-old children across the ADDM Network was just over four years old. The median age for the first diagnosis was three years old.16

The 1 in 22 autism prevalence rate for California in the 2020 data represented a noticeable increase from the 1 in 26 rate found in the data collected from the ADDM Network in 2018.17 18

There was no autism prevalence data for California reported as part of the ADDM Network analysis in 2016, but if you use the 1 in 65 autism prevalence rate for kindergartners (generally children 5-6 years of age) provided by the California Department of Education for that year to gauge a five-year trend (2016-2020), it is curious to observe the dramatic increase in autism prevalence in the state post-2016—the year SB 277 was implemented.13

Cause of Continuing Rise in Autism Rates Still Unknown

Of course, this is not proof of anything. There is no evidence that the increase in vaccination rates for schoolchildren in California spurred by SB 277 in any way affected autism prevalence rates in the state. Correlation is not causation. But one can certainly speculate, particularly when the reason for the continued yearly increases in the prevalence rates for this neurological condition remains largely a mystery.

“For California in particular, the data are surprising and represent the highest autism prevalence estimates from a region by an epidemiologic study,” said Walter Zahorodny, PhD, director of the New Jersey Autism Study at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, who co-authored the analysis of the ADDM Network data from 2020. “The trouble is we don’t understand what the primary drivers of the increase are.”13

Rutgers University acknowledges that it is “difficult to ascertain why ASD prevalence continues to climb.” It recognizes that there are “known risk factors for autism,” which include “age of parents, multiple-gestation birth, prematurity, C-section delivery and care in the intensive care unit after delivery.” But it points out that these “perinatal factors have remained relatively stable even as the rate of ASD has continued to surge.”13

It is often theorized that the rise in autism prevalence rates can be attributed to “better awareness” and more “availability of services.” However, Dr. Zahorodny stated he believed this was “impossible” because the scope and breadth of increase in ASD has reached across all subtypes of the condition—from mild to severe and across all demographic groups. “This is not just a phenomenon of becoming more sensitive to subtly impaired kids,” Dr. Zahorodny said.13

An Anthroposophic Hospital in Germany

During a trip to Germany in 1993 I had a unique opportunity to visit a German
medical doctor who specialized in natural health care, particularly classical homeopathy. At the time she worked at an integrated, anthroposophic, teaching hospital near Cologne. This hospital offered both conventional and natural treatment modalities, including homeopathy.

At the time Dr L worked as an Ob/Gyn on the maternity ward. She had previously spent two years in Toronto, Canada, working and training at Sick Kid’s Hospital. During this time, she had also studied with Dr. Andre Saine, ND, my homeopathy professor, who subsequently connected us.

I was very impressed with Dr L, not only was she an Ob/Gyn as well as a classical
homeopath, she was also in charge of a program for biological cancer therapy at the hospital. Natural therapies were completely integrated with conventional medicine in this facility.

She invited me to spend a day with her but asked me not to disclose my true identity as a naturopathic doctor and instead pretend to be a medical doctor visiting from Canada instead, ‘just in case’. I agreed and we started to see her patients.

Little did we know then what ‘just in case’ was going to mean…

Homeopathy during pregnancy, labour and delivery

The first patient, let’s call her Paula, was nine months pregnant and a few days overdue. Dr L gave her one dose of Pulsatilla 200C and she promptly went into labour! Now I was getting my hopes up to observe my very first birth!

Not only did Dr L work on the maternity ward but there was also a midwifery school on the premises and the multiple births that took place every day were all handled with minimal medical intervention if possible. I followed Dr L around all day as she was examining patients and supervising staff.

By the time Dr L's shift ended at 9 pm Paula has still not delivered, so I asked if it would be possible for me to stay on anyway. Dr. L. generously made arrangements with the kindly Chief of Staff to let me stay. All the time I felt like a bit of an imposter of course, but nevertheless unable to resist the temptation!

Well, I almost gave it away when Paula received an epidural at 1:30 am. The birthing room, not unlike a regular bedroom, was crowded with several midwives and midwifery students, nurses, a doctor, Mrs. S’s husband and - little me. By this time Paula had been in labour for at least 12 hours and was tired and ready for an epidural. No other physicians on the floor were trained in homeopathy or perhaps the epidural could have been avoided, but nonetheless, here we were.

The effects of epidurals on the innocent

Of course I had know about epidurals but had never actually seen one done. The doctor arrived wheeling a tray with assorted equipment, including the largest hypodermic needle I had ever seen in my life. I swear the thing was ten inches long!

He then asked Mrs. S. to bend forward and tried to maneuver the tip of this monstrosity into her spine. Having some difficulty he quipped: “Paula, you have a back made of steel, you must be doing a lot of sports,“ to which the patient replied that, yes, indeed, she was skiing a lot.

That’s the last I heard of that conversation. The next time I opened my eyes I was flat on the floor in the hospital room with several concerned faces peering at me from above!
As you already guessed, 'Dr Z', the wimpy medical doctor from Canada, had fainted at the sight of a needle!

Luckily, Paula's husband caught me as I went down. Then he fainted, too!

As I hadn’t eaten all day, I blamed it on hypoglycemia to save face and was duly
revived with some orange juice and cookies by the helpful staff, who also let me
lie down for a while in another room.

But I just couldn’t leave it alone and asked the staff to get me when the baby
was ready to come.

The big C

About an hour later, a midwife came and told me that things were not going so well with Mrs. S. and that she was going to have – a Caesarian section. Did I want to watch??

Well, after two seconds of mental deliberation, I agreed of course. Everyone changed into surgical gear; I didn’t have a clue and put the mask on upside down. One of the nurses corrected the mistake and the surgeon joked about people passing out from the sight of needles.

They had me stay at the side of the scene and a chair ready, just in case. But this time I was okay, I got to observe an entire Caesarian section up close, it was amazing! And I hoped I would never need one!

During this night about eight other babies were born on the ward and I got to observe one other natural birth, as well as actually assist a woman in premature labour with homeopathy, since the resident homeopath was off duty and the Chief of Staff allowed it.

What an experience!

Acceptance of biological therapies in Germany

This essay was originally written in 1993. At the time in Germany, biological therapies were becoming more and more accepted and almost mainstream, so to speak. A few years later basic training in homeopathy started to be is offered to all medical students and chairs for integrated “Naturopathic” medical programs have been established at several major medical schools.

There were and still are whole hospitals in Germany devoted to treating people with biological methods – a few years earlier I had visited a 200 bed hospital specializing in integrated natural therapies for cancer patients. They used everything from macrobiotic cooking to light and psychotherapy, as well as botanical and homeopathic medicine.

A recent survey of medical doctors in Germany at the time revealed that the majority were using some natural remedies in their practices. The German government had also pledged 10 million marks at the time (1993) to fund research projects on the efficacy of natural therapies to put them on firmer scientific ground.

If only our medical system in Canada was as only progressive. At the time of my visit in Germany, midwives were not even regulated, never mind any doctors using homeopathy in hospitals. And of course in our naturopathic training we did not have access to hospitals or observe births, although that would have been most interesting and helpful also. It is now 2022, almost 20 years later, and the health care system in Canada has certainly not progressed towards a more holistic approach.

Well, it is only a matter of time, as homeopathy and other natural therapies are increasingly becoming recognized as safe, effective and cost-efficient.

Prenatal Ultrasound

Prenatal ultrasound is a taken-for-granted component of modern maternity care, to such an extent that most obstetrician-gynecologists find it impossible to practice their profession without it. American women now routinely undergo four to five ultrasounds per pregnancy. Despite the absence of demonstrated benefits, there is also a trend toward “new applications of ultrasound…at earlier stages in pregnancy” (p. 47), including Doppler fetal heart rate monitoring that magnifies the unborn baby’s exposure manyfold.

A Scottish physician developed the first 2D ultrasound machine in the late 1950s. Intended for prenatal scanning as well as gynecological tumor diagnosis, the machine drew on the doctor’s prior experience with military radar technology. Now, the latest growth sector in ultrasound technology is 3D imaging (which shows the baby’s face) or 4D ultrasound that creates a “live video effect, like a movie”—luring parents into stockpiling “keepsake” footage of their baby’s in utero facial expressions.

While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tells prospective parents that ultrasound exams provide “a valuable opportunity to view and hear the heartbeat of the fetus, bond with the unborn baby, and capture images to share with family and friends”—and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) denies any association between ultrasound and adverse maternal, fetal or neonatal outcomes—not everyone shares the agencies’ complacency. In fact, two recent books make the opposite case.

One author—backed up by over 1500 scientific citations—argues that prenatal ultrasound is so harmful to children that it “should be banned from obstetrics immediately.” The other contends that the “subtle and not-so-subtle” biological effects of ultrasound “have set the human species on a tragic path” from which it may take generations to recover.

Known but hidden risks

Few prospective parents realize that ultrasound technology is not just sound waves but is based on non-ionizing radiation. Other examples of man-made non-ionizing radiation include cell phones, cell towers, cordless phones, Wi-Fi and more. Although ionizing radiation (think X-rays) has the reputation of being more powerful, non-ionizing radiation is plenty capable of producing biological effects—including altering and damaging cells. In the mid-1980s, a best-selling doctor/author likened ultrasound to other “unproven” technologies “being sold to the public as being ‘perfectly safe’” and scolded the medical profession for failing to take the “necessary steps to protect people against a malignant technology.” Around the same time, the World Health Organization declared (in vain) that concerns about ultrasound’s clinical efficacy and safety “do not allow a recommendation for routine screening.”

According to the author of one of the recent ultrasound critiques, the technology causes far-reaching damage. Describing a series of studies published in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the author notes that “a single exposure to ultrasound produced cellular and DNA damage similar to 250 chest x rays”—and “[d]amage was permanent and heritable for ten generations and beyond.” Forms of damage included “DNA shearing, single and double strand breaks, chromosome rearrangements and DNA uncoiling, deformities and mutations in offspring, as well as the complete deactivation of genetic material within sonicated cells.”

The second recent book summarizes 50 studies of prenatal ultrasound in China, describing “alteration and injuries in the organs, tissues [and] cellular ultrastructures” and “damage to the cytokine signaling in molecules, red blood cells, neurons and mitochondria.” The author notes that the physics of ultrasound are “dramatic”; for example, industry uses ultrasound “to disintegrate and blend materials, and to weld steel.” Airing the concept of “toxic synergy,” the book also suggests that “ultrasound is an effective synergist…theoretically capable of initiating fetal vulnerabilities to subsequent toxic exposure”; thus, “the risk of subsequent exposure to vaccines, birth drugs, antibiotics and other environmental stressors would be raised by prenatal ultrasound, not in addition, but as a multiplier” [emphasis added].

Ultrasound and autism

Many researchers have noted that the safety of ultrasound devices depends, among other factors, on the amount of “output energy…to which the fetus is exposed.” In the late 1980s, the ultrasound industry approached the FDA with a request to augment existing output levels “to enhance diagnostic capability,” and in 1991, the agency acquiesced to an eightfold increase in allowable output exposure levels. When, 20 years later, FDA researchers compared ultrasound trends before and after the 1991 regulatory change—focusing in particular on the potential for “tissue heating”—they reported “a substantial increase in ultrasonic power over time” and cautiously concluded that their temperature rise estimates “could be considered potentially harmful.” Stated more directly by other authors:

This FDA action ensured that babies born after 1991 would be exposed to even more radiation as compared to those born in the 1970s and 80s, hence these children have a greater risk of radiation-induced genetic and/or brain damage that can lead to autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Researchers have pointed out that the autism epidemic took off at around the same time that ultrasound use and intensity increased. To explain this association, they note the presence of central nervous system alterations in animals exposed to ultrasound in utero. For example, a study in mice found that fetal exposure to diagnostic ultrasound altered “typical social behaviors…that may be relevant for autism.”

Swedish researchers writing in 2016 compared autism rates in children born between 1999 and 2003 who had been exposed to ultrasound at either 12 or 18 weeks’ gestation. The authors found similar rates of autism in both groups but called for further research, noting that their results could not speak to current ultrasound practices. “Today,” the authors stated, “higher intensity ultrasound scans are performed more frequently, at earlier stages during pregnancy and for non-medical purposes, implying longer exposure time for the fetus.”

Manuel Casanova (a researcher at the University of South Carolina-Greenville) has coauthored numerous studies describing the autistic brain and delving into ultrasound’s effects on the brain. Espousing a “triple hit” hypothesis of autism that involves (1) external stressors (2) during a critical period of brain development in fetuses with (3) underlying vulnerabilities, Casanova suggests that prenatal ultrasound may be a key stressor.

According to Casanova, ultrasound preferentially affects cells with a “proclivity for being deformed,” activating mechanisms having to do with cell growth and cell division and causing certain cells “to divide at a time when they should not divide.” “Ill-timed activation or over-activation” of certain pathways via ultrasound can also lead to unwanted cell proliferation or maldistribution of neurons. Other researchers have confirmed the ultrasound-autism relationship within the “triple hit” context.

Casanova frankly states that “[u]ltrasounds are being done without regards to the safety of the patients.” He points out that a third of all ultrasound practitioners fail to adhere to safety regulations and notes that at least 40% of ultrasound equipment is defective. In addition, he observes that many practitioners “don’t see anything wrong” with using ultrasound during the first trimester, even though safety regulations discourage first-trimester use in uneventful pregnancies.

Rollback needed

It is unlikely that the medical community will readily ban the lucrative practice of prenatal ultrasound, but consumers are in a position to help roll back the technology’s overuse by withdrawing their consent.

There is little evidence that diagnostic ultrasound is saving lives or improving outcomes, and considerable evidence that, on the contrary, it is unsafe. Risks in addition to autism include fetal growth retardation, other brain abnormalities and both male and female infertility as well as broader vulnerability to disease. Given that ultrasound damage may not become apparent until years down the road, it behooves parents-to-be to learn the facts and decide whether a souvenir image or movie is worth the risk to their child’s long-term health.

Tylenol Use in Babies, Children After Vaccination Raises Risk of Autism, New Review Shows

The authors of a new review of the drug acetaminophen (paracetamol), sold under the brand names Tylenol and Panadol, called for the immediate end of the use of the drug in infants and children, citing the drug’s association with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

“Our study shows that acetaminophen would never be approved for pediatric use by today’s regulatory standards,” Dr. William Parker, of WPLab, Inc., who led the research team that conducted the review on acetaminophen and autism, told The Defender.
The review, published in the July issue of Minerva Pediatrics, offers 17 lines of evidence that the commonly used remedy for pain and fever may be contributing to the autism epidemic.

The authors said their findings could have huge implications for preventing ASD, as acetaminophen is used so much in young children — in some populations, up to 90% of children receive acetaminophen in their early years.

The rate of ASD has skyrocketed in the last 40 years, and now affects 1 in 40 U.S. children.

Acetaminophen became the drug of choice to treat fevers and pain in children in the early 1980s, after aspirin was associated with Reye’s syndrome.

However, the use of acetaminophen in infants and children was never shown to be safe for neurodevelopment.

“The belief that acetaminophen is safe for children is an assumption based on the fact many studies show it does not cause liver damage in children when used at an appropriate dose,” said Parker.

Parker and his colleagues previously conducted a systematic review, published in February in the European Journal of Pediatrics, which showed the studies claiming acetaminophen is safe for children did not examine the effect of the drug on neurodevelopment — even though the brain is one of the primary target organs for the drug’s therapeutic effect.

Their latest review builds on their earlier work showing acetaminophen was not assessed for impact on neurodevelopment, and on the strong evidence that prenatal exposure to acetaminophen increases the risks of neurodevelopmental issues.

There is little research on the effect of postnatal exposure to acetaminophen.

However, according to the study, “circumstantial evidence regarding postnatal exposure to the drug is abundant, and includes at least three otherwise unexplained temporal relationships, data from laboratory animal studies, several miscellaneous and otherwise unexplained correlations, and a lack of alternative suspects that fit the evidence-derived profile.”

Based on this evidence, the authors “concluded without any reasonable doubt” that postnatal exposure to acetaminophen for children at risk is “responsible for many if not most cases of ASD.”

The risk factor: oxidative stress

The key to understanding the role of acetaminophen in ASD is that acetaminophen alone does not trigger ASD — the negative impact happens in the presence of oxidative stress, according to Parker and his colleagues.

Oxidative stress is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body that can lead to cell and tissue damage.

The body’s cells produce free radicals during metabolism, the chemical reactions that produce energy in our cells. These free radicals cause damage to cells and contribute to chronic illnesses and the aging process.

Unlike many drugs, some of the acetaminophen an individual takes is converted by the body into a highly toxic metabolite, N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine (NAPQI).

Usually, NAPQI is rapidly neutralized (rendered harmless) by glutathione, and because most healthy children have lots of glutathione, they aren’t harmed by NAPQI.

However, under conditions of oxidative stress, glutathione is depleted so the body can’t adequately remove the NAPQI. Left unremoved, the NAPQI reacts with a wide range of proteins, causing permanent damage to the proteins and associated cells.

Many babies and children are exposed to excessive oxidative stress through a variety of environmental and genetic factors including infection, treatment with antibiotics, vaccination, psychological stress, jaundice, heavy metals, problems with vitamin B metabolism, EMF exposure, exposure to cigarette smoke or air pollution and exposure to organophosphates.

How likely a child is to be injured by acetaminophen depends in part on the amount of oxidative stress present when the child takes the acetaminophen and the amount of the drug administered to the child.

According to the authors of the review, understanding the role of oxidative stress in combination with acetaminophen contributes to our understanding of the disparate risk factors for ASD: They are sources of oxidative stress.

When a child develops a fever after receiving a vaccine, it’s an indication the child is experiencing oxidative stress. Giving acetaminophen to a child in the throes of oxidative stress increases the child’s risk of developing ASD, according to Parker.

First indication that acetaminophen might be associated with ASD

Parker told The Defender the first indication that acetaminophen might have a negative impact on neurodevelopment came from the work of Dr. Stephen Schultz, who watched his child regress into ASD in 1996, after routine childhood vaccination followed by giving his child acetaminophen.

After his son’s “slow slide” into autism, Schultz left his established dentistry practice and went on a journey to find out what happened to his child, earning a Ph.D. in the process.
In 2008, Schultz and a number of distinguished scientists, then at the University of California, San Diego and at San Diego State University, published a small survey study that showed a six-fold increased risk of ASD in 1-to 5-year-old children when routine childhood vaccines were accompanied with acetaminophen versus ibuprofen.

“Unfortunately,” Parker said, “Schultz’s study was ignored for almost a decade.” The study was criticized for being small.

Parker conceded a study like this, taken in isolation, does not seem persuasive. However, he said, it should be considered as just one piece of the big picture of what is causing the dramatic increase in ASD.

As Jennifer Margulis, Ph.D., wrote in her Substack post on Parker’s paper, “In a nutshell, it’s impossible to see a big picture with a scientific microscope.”

A narrative review of the evidence

The goal of Parker’s latest study was to pull together the many pieces of evidence in order to better understand the big picture.

The study is a narrative review that presents the 17 lines of evidence suggesting acetaminophen is associated with ASD and examines the alternative explanations.
Highlights from the review include:

• Acetaminophen use in pregnancy is neurotoxic to babies, with long-term effects that include lower IQ, increased ASD and increased ADHD. The authors conclude if babies can be harmed by acetaminophen in utero, it’s unreasonable to think they couldn’t also be harmed by the drug after birth.

• Studies on rats and mice showed acetaminophen causes long-term brain damage, and this early exposure to the drug was at doses that are similar to or even less than doses received by human babies and children. An alternative explanation is that rat and mouse pups are more sensitive to acetaminophen than human babies. However, the authors point out that lab animals are often less sensitive to toxins, such as the heavy metal lead and the insecticide DDT.

• The incidence of ASD began to increase in the early 1980s, coinciding with the discovery aspirin was associated with Reye’s syndrome and the resulting switch from using aspirin in children to using acetaminophen.

The authors argue this was not a coincidence.

• The incidence of ASD steadily increased in the U.S., after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) eased restrictions on direct-to-consumer advertising in 1997. That, and other factors, may have increased the use of pharmaceutical products.

• The circumcision of baby boys is associated with a dramatic increase (50%) in the risk for early-onset ASD. Acetaminophen is frequently used to relieve pain caused by circumcision.

• The combination of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine with the use of acetaminophen is associated with higher risk of ASD than MMR vaccination alone. “Many parents believe that their children’s ASD was induced by a vaccine based on their own observations or the observations of trusted social networks.”
However, the authors argue the vaccination caused oxidative stress. The subsequent administration of acetaminophen — not the vaccine — then triggered the ASD.

• People with cystic fibrosis, who are unusually efficient at metabolizing acetaminophen, have a low incidence of ASD.

• In South Korea, where acetaminophen-containing products were repeatedly found to contain amounts of the drug exceeding the package label, researchers found an unexpectedly high prevalence of ASD.

What can parents do instead? Alternatives to acetaminophen

What will it take to change the authorization of acetaminophen for children or at least get a black box warning on the drug?

Parker contacted the FDA, but said, “The way the tide was turned with aspirin and Reye’s Syndrome was through grassroots efforts.”

In the meantime, the narrative review by Parker and his colleagues is there for parents and caregivers who want to review the evidence and decide for themselves if acetaminophen is worth the risk for babies and young children.

“In my experience, with very rare exceptions, parents who are aware of the available evidence will avoid giving acetaminophen to their babies and children,” said Parker.
Unlike some potential causes of autism, acetaminophen is one risk factor that parents, caregivers and physicians can often eliminate with ease, Parker said.

For parents looking for alternatives to treat fevers in children, Parker recommended the “Treating a Fever Without Medicine” resource from the American Academy of Pediatrics, with tips such as offering plenty of fluids and sponging the child.

Margulis suggested a range of natural remedies to treat pain and fever in children.

A Parent's Inquiry

I often receive inquiries from parents around the world regarding concerns about whether to vaccine or not, whether to use homeoprophylaxis (HP) whether HP could be useful to prevent or heal vaccine injuries and more. Here is an example of such an inquiry and my response.

"My wife and I have a year old son. My wife is mistrustful of modern medicine. She is concerned that our son could be negatively affected by vaccines. She wants to use homeoprophylaxis.

When our son was born I agreed to not doing a normal vaccine schedule, because I thought that would ease her fears but at the same time he would at least get some vaccines.

I am 1000% for vaccines and against homeoprophylaxis . However I'm aware I'm not going to win the argument and I can clearly see that.

So here is what I want to ask you...

Could we do vaccines and homepropyhlaxis? Now if homeoprophlyaxis is so good and effective wouldn't it counter act any potential injury?

Thank you for your help.

Parents Want to Protect their Children

I've often received inquiries from parents who were not on the same page when it comes to health care choices for their children. These situations are always complex, as parents naturally have the best interests of their children at heart. A parent who wishes to vaccinate wants to protect their child from the potential of serious harm or even death caused by certain infectious diseases.

At the same time, a parent who has done their research on the potential adverse effects of vaccines also wants to protect their child from the same. Homeoprophylaxis is an option to educate the immune system that has been scientifically shown to reduce the risk of serious infectious disease and at the same time does not cause unwanted potential injuries as the remedies are free from additives like aluminum, formaldehyde and many other chemicals.

So here is one answer I wrote:

Parents have Valid Questions

Dear parent,

Those are all good and valid questions. I understand that you both want the best for your child.

I could offer you a consultation together with your wife to share your concerns and allow me to give feedback and support.

One of my main areas of work, with possibly 80% of my patients, is vaccine injury. Yes, there are ways to reduce the risk with homeopathy, by giving a nutritional and homeopathic protocol (remedies made from the actual vaccine the child would be receiving before and after the vaccination), not so much with homeoprophylaxis, although HP in some cases has been reported to be helpful for changes in the child's health after previous vaccines were given.

But yes, some of my patients have used both vaccination and HP, sometimes for different diseases or for timing reasons.

Help for Vaccine Injuries

Vaccine injury in my experience is extremely common and not easy to correct. I have seen many, many hundreds of children (and adults) with vaccine injuries, including many cases - hundreds - of autism, but autism is just the most severe form of vaccine injury. Ear infections, eczema, asthma, ADD/ADHD, seizures, speech disorders, anxiety, OCD, eating challenges, sleep disorders, sensory processing problems, co-ordination problems, GI issues, learning disorders, reduced IQ and much more.

I'll attach a brief ebook I wrote to help people recognize signs of vaccine injury. How do I know? When these children receive homeopathic remedies made from the vaccines that injured them they often drastically improve, so the homeopathic care is not only therapeutic but also diagnostic. They usually need other remedies as well of course, to help with the underlying susceptibilities they were born with that made them more vulnerable to vaccine injury and more.

According to research from many different countries and for many different infectious diseases, homeoprophylaxis has been shown to provide very good protection and has no adverse effects, although of course there is a limited amount of research on it regarding effectiveness and risk as it is not supported much by governments with the notable exceptions of Cuba and India or pharmaceutical companies who don't stand to profit from this system.

One thing though, there is some long-term research on HP, which we don't have on vaccines.

Long-term Outcomes Between Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Children

Vaccines do not have to be tested for more than a few days or weeks in clinical trials, never for months years, nor do they have to be tested against a neutral placebo, or for their potential to cause cancers, mutations or birth defects. Most vaccine injuries have a 2-3 months time delay, none of the childhood vaccines have been tested for that long. Polio, 24 hours, Hep-B, 4 or 5 days, MMR 6 weeks. That's it, no long-term testing to evaluate the long-term health outcomes by manufacturers or governments, even though they have been asked many times to perform just such research.

What we do have is some small, independent research studies comparing the long-term health outcomes between children who were fully vaccinated, not vaccinated at all, or given HP. The HP children were the healthiest 5-10 years later, the vaccinated the unhealthiest, with 30 times higher rates of allergies and 6 times higher rates of developmental disorders, 4.2 times higher rates of autism, 10 times higher rates of pneumonia etc.

Doing the Research

I am happy to support parents in their choices, whether they want to use the full CDC schedule or a modified schedule - delay, go slower, chose vaccines with lower amounts of aluminum, spread them out more, skip some that are not so necessary like Hep B at birth etc - plus the supportive protocols I mentioned above, use HP, use a combination etc. It is the parents' right to chose and I will always support the parents' choices.

But please do your research, you can't take it back once an injury happens and the road to recovery may be long, hard, expensive, you will be treated like pariahs for even thinking that the child was vaccine injured, the child may be injured for life and you may have to support them forever.

Of course some of these things could also happen if the child developed a serious infection we have vaccines for, such as meningitis, but meningitis can be treated with antibiotics, still complications can happen, as with pertussis and even measles, very rarely.

Therefore, the best thing to do is to carefully study all the diseases we have vaccines for, understand the chances your child may contract them, the seriousness of the diseases, the treatments that are available in case the child does contract them etc and then create a risk-benefit profile for each vaccine. Meningitis or tetanus are much more serious than chickenpox or measles for example.

I could write or talk about this for days. You can't imagine the heartbreak of the hundreds and hundreds of parents I've consulted with, especially over the past 11 years since I woke up to vaccine injuries. I have often heard that vaccinating their child was the worst decision they had ever made in their lives, I'm sorry to report.

The Vaccine-Friendly Plan, Dr. Paul Thomas

Not sure how much research you've done on the topic, but I can recommend the two documentaries VAXXED and VAXXED II and the book by Dr. Paul Thomas, The Vaccine-Friendly plan. There is also a lot of other information on my website, plus I can recommend Children's Health Defense, Vaccine Choice Canada and the Informed Consent Action Network for reams of scientific information on the topic.

Dr. Thomas, whom I know personally, btw, opened his thousands of files to an independent investigation after he stopped vaccinating routinely and providing choice to the parents. The results were so threatening to the authorities that they suspended his license temporarily, it was just reinstated. Among other things, rates of autism in his practice: Unvaccinated: 1 in 799. Partially vaccinated with his alternative plan: 1 in about 400. Vaccinated with CDC schedule: 1 in about 54 or so.

Anyway, all I can say is please do your research carefully, I think you already are. Not only is your child's health at stake but so is your marriage, this sort of disagreement usually does not end well I can tell you from many parents who have consulted me with similar disagreements.

Then you have a whole other set of problems which will also negatively impact the child. And again, I understand that you have your child's best interest at heart, no doubt in my mind.

Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) has sued Health and Human Services

ICAN, through its attorneys, has sued HHS for publicly making the unsupported claim that “Vaccines do not cause autism,” in violation of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. ICAN calls out the agency’s illegal behavior and pulls back the curtain on the baseless, oft-repeated claim used to silence parents who know better.

In the past four decades, no claim regarding vaccination has received more attention and publicity than the claim that vaccines cause autism. Likewise, federal health authorities claim to have studied vaccines and autism more thoroughly than any other type of alleged vaccine injury. Federal health authorities assert publicly and matter-of-factly that studies establish that vaccines do not cause autism.

Reflecting this conclusion, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) unequivocally asserts on its website that “Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism”:

The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (the Act), however, mandates that the Secretary of Health and Human Services “shall … make or assure improvements in … the … research on vaccines, in order to reduce the risks of adverse reactions to vaccines” as well as “develop and disseminate vaccine information materials … based on available data and information.”

The Act also provides that “any person may commence … a civil action on such person’s own behalf against the Secretary where there is alleged a failure of the Secretary to perform any act or duty under this part.”

Clearly there is a failure of the Secretary to uphold his duties and so ICAN sued the Secretary for his failure to perform certain acts and duties pursuant to the Act which have caused direct injuries to ICAN and the Institute for Autism Science. As long as federal health authorities claim is that “the science is settled” with regard to vaccines and autism, there will be no funding for research into this extremely alarming and important issue.

ICAN’s lawsuit lays out for the Court the lack of scientific studies supporting any such assertion that all childhood vaccines do not cause autism through the following relevant history:

1991: Institute of Medicine (“IOM”) issued a report explaining that it could not identify any studies addressing pertussis-containing vaccines and autism.

2012: IOM issues another report finding only one study that looked at the issue of pertussis-containing vaccines and autism, and that study did find a link between this vaccine and autism. The IOM could also not find any study to support that tetanus or diphtheria vaccines do not cause autism.

2014: an agency within HHS again found that there are no studies supporting a claim that these three vaccines do not cause autism and the agency was also unable to identify a study to support the assertion that Hepatitis B vaccines do not cause autism. Rather, it found only one study regarding Hepatitis B and autism and that study found that babies receiving this vaccine had autism at three times the rate as those not receiving this vaccine.

October 12, 2017: ICAN sent a demand – subscribed to by 55 organizations whose members exceed 5 million Americans – to the Secretary stating that “there are … no published studies showing that autism is not caused by Hepatitis B, Rotavirus, Hib, Pneumococcal, Inactivated Poliovirus, Influenza, … vaccines – all of which HHS recommends babies receive, typically multiple times, by one year of age.” The demand asked the Secretary to “confirm that HHS shall forthwith remove the claim that ‘Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism’ from the CDC website, or alternatively, please identify the specific studies on which HHS bases its blanket claim that no vaccines cause autism.”

January 18, 2018: The Secretary responded but failed to identify any studies that support the assertion that vaccines given to babies do not cause autism. ICAN has sent numerous unrequited follow-up requests to the Secretary asking for this science.

June 21, 2019: ICAN submitted requests pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) requesting that the CDC produce the studies it relies upon to claim that vaccines injected into babies do not cause autism .

December 31, 2019: When the CDC failed to provide any studies responsive to these requests, ICAN commenced an action against the CDC. The action requested that the Court enter an order requiring the CDC to provide the studies it relies upon to claim that the vaccines given during the first year of life do not cause autism or, in the alternative, to admit that it has no such studies.

March 2, 2020: the CDC finally identified, in a stipulated order a total of 16 studies and 4 reviews (e., a review of studies on a given topic) that it relies on to claim that the vaccines given to babies do not cause autism. Not one of these studies or reviews supports the claim that vaccines injected into babies – DTaP, Hep B, Hib, PCV13, and IPV – do not cause autism.

March 10, 2020: Plaintiffs submitted another FOIA request for “All studies supporting the claim that DTaP does not cause autism,” giving yet another chance for the CDC to provide studies to support its public assertion. In this way, the Plaintiffs asked for any studies that support that DTaP does not cause autism regardless of whether or not the CDC relies upon each one.

March 23, 2020: the CDC responded to this FOIA request by pointing to the same unresponsive and inadequate list of twenty studies it had previously pointed to in the stipulation and order of March 2, 2020.

March 27, 2020: ICAN provided the CDC yet another opportunity to provide supportive studies for the claim still being shared with the public by submitting yet another FOIA request, this time for: “Studies created or retained by CDC to support the claim that DTaP does not cause autism.” The CDC again responded by pointing to the same list of twenty studies and reviews, all of which either relate to MMR or thimerosal, a single antigen (not vaccine) study, and one review by the IOM that looked for any support that DTaP does not cause autism and could not find a shred of such evidence.

August 27, 2020: the CDC finally removed the claim that “Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism” from its webpage.
January 21, 2021: ICAN widely publicized that the CDC had removed the statement “Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism” from its webpage. Within days, the CDC restored this claim to its vaccine-autism page

ICAN, therefore, brought this action to hold the Secretary and the CDC accountable and to hold them to the same standard ICAN is held to: do not make claims that cannot be supported with science. You can read the lawsuit here.

A Parent's Letter

Dear Anke,

I've been seeking a practitioner who can help to guide me in working with my son's health, in particular with regard to vaccines that he may need to have in the coming months and years. I'm writing to ask if you might be able to help advise and work with us in this matter.

Jonathan (not his real name) is 2 years and 4 months. He was born healthy and normal as far as we could tell, a generally happy baby who loved looking into our eyes and trying to have conversations with us, babbling up a storm since very young.

When he was 3 months old he had his first set of 8 vaccines given all together on the same day. We didn't notice anything amiss except a mild rash around the injection site. He seemed fine afterwards. However around this time he began to gradually develop eczema on his cheeks. We thought this was due to him starting to do tummy time more often, as the saliva would dribble down onto his cheeks a lot. (Anke's comment: Eczema within a few weeks from a vaccination can be a sign of an adverse reaction. Read this case for a similar situation.)

However at 4 months old he suddenly woke up one morning and steadfastly avoided eye contact, and only looked up at the ceiling while making a high-pitched squealing noise. He seemed quite contented doing it, not in distress. From this day on he did not babble again for many months and continued to avoid eye contact except for some limited circumstances.

His eczema also steadily worsened until it was severe, and a few months later when introducing solids, we discovered that he had severe allergies to many foods, mainly nuts and egg - requiring an EpiPen. He was flagged as being 'at risk' for ASD when he was 18 months due to on-going lack of speech and low eye contact.

We started early intervention around 18 months and Jonathan has made immense progress. He now speaks at a level considered advanced for his age, and he's making a lot more eye contact. This is a great relief to us, however we are now struggling with the situation that he remains unvaccinated ever since his early 3-month shots, followed by a partial set of vaccinations that we gave at 5 months. We did not feel safe to give him anymore. He has been at home most of the time until now anyway, due to Covid in particular, but now he really needs to get outside more and meet with other children. My partner in particular insists that he have at least the tetanus shot, which I've heard is a concerning one due to being given as a composite with diptheria and pertussis vaccines.

I've tried desperately to find a doctor who could help advise us, as I'm terrified of losing our precious boy to a second avalanche of severe health crises. To have regained him back over these past few months has been the greatest relief and blessing of my life, and I'm so afraid that things may become even worse than they did the last time, if he is vaccinated again. However I don't have a lot of options at this point as he is also in danger from the illnesses that he might catch if he is not vaccinated, and my partner is not willing to consider a completely alternative lifestyle in which we would more or less have to leave the society that we live in.

In particular I'm wondering if you have had experience with children with similar symptoms to my son's, and if you might be able to tell us whether they've been able to safely be vaccinated when older; and also I wonder if you would be able to help us access remedies and protective treatments that we could give to Ryan during and after any vaccinations he may receive.

Reducing Risk of Adverse Events After Vaccination

Dear parent,

I'm sorry to hear about your son. Sadly I hear these stories every week. I'm glad he has recovered, but yes, if you vaccinate him again he could be at risk of other adverse events. Most adverse reactions to vaccines tend to be delayed by weeks or months and therefor do not ring the alarm bells of the attending physicians, who do not realize that a child like this may have had a vaccine injury in the first place and would be at increased risk of future, potentially more serious, adverse event.

I understand that you are in a situation between a rock and a hard place and I would be happy to guide you.

I will attach a little ebook I just wrote on the subject, in addition you may want to read the case studies on my website, especially this one.

You essentially have four options:

1) Dealing with Acutes as they come up

The option of not vaccinating further and dealing with any potential tetanus or other health scares as they come up. Tetanus infection is a very rare problem in the industrialized world fortunately, however, if he was in danger doctors could use the tetanus immunoglobulin to help him. A tetanus shot vaccine at that time is actually not nearly as effective as the immunoglobulin. There are also homeopathic remedies that have traditionally been used to reduce the risk of tetanus infection before vaccines became available.

2) Building Your Child's Immune System

The option to not vaccinate and instead focus on building your child's immune system with nutrition, plenty of exposure to nature and with constitutional homeopathy. There are many resources on this, I especially like the Weston Price protocols on nutrition. You may also want to learn about homeopathy and/or have practitioners such as naturopaths, homeopaths, nutritionists and chiropractors, on your team to help you deal with any acute infections and other health problems your child may encounter.

3) Supportive Protocols Before and After Vaccination

The option to vaccinate and to give a supportive protocol before and after to reduce the risk of adverse events, this can be done with nutrients and homeopathy. I've helped many families with such protocols. They include nutrients such as vitamin C, D, zinc and a homeopathic remedy made from the specific vaccine to be given.

You also have a choice to space out vaccines and give fewer at one time, which has also been shown to reduce the potential for adverse events. There is an excellent book on the topic written by a well-known and highly regarded Pediatrician, Dr. Paul Thomas, MD, called The Vaccine-Friendly Plan.

4) Homeoprophylaxis

The option to choose homeoprophylaxis, which is the use of homeopathic remedies to mitigate infectious disease. It's been around for over 200 years and research has shown that it can be as effective as vaccination but without the chemicals etc, which may cause adverse reactions. Arsenicum album (white arsenic) illustrates better than most homeopathic remedies that what a substance can cause in the way of symptoms it can also heal, according to the homeopathic principle of similarity, or “like cures like.” This innocent-looking, white, tasteless and odorless powder has a galaxy of healings to its credit, but it also has a most sinister background of lethality.

For centuries, arsenic held a preeminent role as the preferred choice of the homicidal poisoner.

Symptoms of acute arsenic poisoning are similar to those of cholera, which can cause severe diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Because cholera was common in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, poisonings often went undetected, as the victim was often assumed to have died of natural causes.

Chronic arsenic poisoning can cause heart disease and cancer, among other things, so sometimes poisoners chose the slow route of death via chronic arsenic administration.

THE AGE OF ARSENIC

The ruling classes of Italy were reputed to have made particularly liberal use of this convenient method of dispatching enemies, but the French were also rather fond of arsenic. Death by arsenic poisoning was so common in the era of Louis XIV, the glamorous French Sun King, that the period was known as the “Age of Arsenic.”

Of course, it was not only the nobility that made use of arsenic’s lethal powers. One famous vendor of arsenic in the 17th century was La Tofania, who sold her concoction called “Aqua Tofana” to disgruntled wives all over Europe, helping them to dispose of adulterous, violent or negligent husbands. Apparently, she made a good business of it for fifty years while killing about six hundred men. By the 19th century, arsenic had acquired the nickname “inheritance powder,” for obvious reasons.

Small doses of arsenic were known to have medicinal properties and were used in Traditional Chinese Medicine formulas two thousand four hundred years ago. In fact, modern science confirms the fact that arsenic has nutritional value as a trace mineral and that too little arsenic may also be detrimental[4]. Animal studies suggest that arsenic is essential for fertility and reproduction and may also be important for cardiac health. Specifically, it may help to maintain normal mitochondrial cell membrane function in heart muscle cells .

In 1851, the medical world learned of the practice of arsenic consumption among mountain-dwelling peasants, hunters and wood cutters in Styria (now a region of Austria). These people apparently used regular small to large doses of arsenic to help them breathe better in the high mountain altitudes and to experience greater vitality. Women reportedly used it to improve their complexion and attractiveness.

In short order, this early-1850s discovery started an arsenic-tonic craze that persisted for the next several decades. Of the various solutions of arsenic compounds that came into widespread use, the most important was “Fowler’s solution,” originally introduced in 1786 by the English physician Thomas Fowler.

It became wildly popular in the 19th century and was especially valued for its tonic and stimulant properties.

With this illustrious background established, let us examine the homeopathic use of arsenic, keeping in mind the perspective of the poisoned as well as the poisoner, and ultimately applying that perspective to the year 2020.

Effectiveness of human and veterinary homeopathy in general and treatment of infections in particular

Dr Petra Weiermayer, Prof Michael Frass, Dr Thomas Peinbauer and Dr Liesbeth Ellinger, two human physicians and two veterinarians, have written a narrative review of homeopathic human and veterinary research that was recently published in a respected conventional peer review journal. 1

This article, entitled “Evidence-based homeopathy and veterinary homeopathy, and its potential to help overcome the antimicrobial resistance problem – an overview,” was written and published in the spirit of the World Health Organization’s goal of “One Health.”

This review of homeopathic research was published in The Swiss Archive for Veterinary Medicine, which is the oldest veterinary journal in the world (founded in 1816). It is the scientific and practice-related official publication of the Society of Swiss Veterinarians.

The authors provide evidence for the effectiveness of human and veterinary homeopathy in general, and in homeopathic treatment of infections in particular.

Criticism of the second Australian Report and the EASAC

On the basis of scientific evidence, they criticize the approach taken in the second Australian NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council) Report and the EASAC (European Academies Science Advisory Council) Statement) which have ignored or mischaracterized the body of scientific evidence for homeopathy.2, 3

This review serves, among other things, as a foundation for a cooperation with universities in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland regarding research projects to evaluate the potential of homeopathy and phytotherapy for the reduction of antibiotics.

In view of the demands of the European Green Deal (Farm2Fork Strategy) and the EU Organic Regulation 2018/848, the authors show how homeopathic medicine could help Europe in these goals:

Homeopathic Medicine Could Help Europe In These Goals

1) to reduce the use of antibiotics by 50% throughout the EU by 2030 [4]

2) to increase the number of organic farms in the EU from 8% to 25% by 2030 [4]

3) to give preference to homeopathy and phytotherapy in organic farms before conventional medicines, including antibiotics, are used [5]

Integrative veterinary medicine seeks to combine conventional and complementary medical therapy procedures (“best practices”) in a proactive and innovative manner.

The conclusion of the narrative review clearly discusses the legal and scientific foundations of homeopathy. Evidence level 1a studies (systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials) are reviewed regarding external evidence on the general use of human and veterinary homeopathy, and, when focusing on external evidence on the use of homeopathy in infections, some evidence level 1a, 1b (individual randomized controlled trials), 2c studies (outcomes research) are described in more detail. They conclude:

“The current national laws (Switzerland, Austria, Germany) and EU legislation guarantee the quality and safety of homeopathic medicinal products as well as the safety of homeopathic therapies carried out lege artis (denotes that a certain intervention is performed in a correct way). [6 – 15]

Evidence for the Effectiveness of Homeopathy in the Treatment of Infections

Evidence for the effectiveness of human and veterinary homeopathy in general, and in particular in the treatment of infections, is sufficiently proven for further research in this field. Five of the six meta-analyses on different indications up to 2014 (see Table 2) concluded that the effectiveness of homeopathic therapy differs from placebo. [16 – 20].

Only the systematic review with meta-analysis of 2005 as well as the second Australian NHMRC Report and the EASAC Statement, where more than 90% of the studies were excluded from the analysis in each case, did not show any effectiveness of homeopathy beyond placebo [21, 2, 3].

A review in 2013 already confirmed that more than 90% of all studies must be excluded in order to conclude that homeopathy is not effective [22].

Individualized homeopathy especially demonstrates effects at all quality levels according to Cochrane criteria, even in the methodologically high-quality studies. Obviously non-scientific interests consequently led to misinformation about homeopathy [23].

In addition to studies on the proof of effectiveness of homeopathy for infections, data from health care research, so-called Real World Data, show the potential for a significant reduction in the use of antibiotics through homeopathic treatments (see Table 3).

Not least because of the global threat posed by the problem of antibiotic resistance, further methodologically high-quality studies are urgently needed in human homeopathy just as in veterinary homeopathy.

Implementation of studies at university facilities is a prerequisite for quality assurance, which can only be achieved by integrating complementary medicine including homeopathy at the universities.

This absolutely necessary consequence and demand in the interest of the patients is already asserted by the American Consensus Guideline for university continuing education in integrative veterinary medicine and is legally anchored in Switzerland according to the Medical Professions Act for teaching and research at the university [24, 25].

There Is A War Going On

There is a war going on.

A war for our minds, our bodies, our livelihoods, our hearts, in fact it could be argued that there is a war going on for our very humanness.

We are at war with a powerful, invisible enemy. An enemy lurking in the shadows of our governments, our health authorities, and our media. We can no longer trust our own governments, health authorities or media to tell us the truth. We can no longer trust that these entities are working in our best interest. Or maybe we never could and it’s just coming to a head.

The coronavirus pandemic and the government responses worldwide have devastated or economies, torn apart our families, deprived our children of an education and have left our elderly to die alone.

Experimental Vaccines?

And now we are, for the first time in human history, facing the experimental vaccines using using novel, never before used mRNA technology. A vaccine, which certain powers want to see single every human being on the planet injected with. A vaccine, which was never tested in long-term clinical trials and in most cases not against an inert placebo but instead against other vaccines. Some of the novel coronavirus vaccines were developed or tested on cell cultures from aborted human embryos, which were rendered carcinogenic to make them immortal.

What will this do to us as human beings? How will this vaccine affect our bodies and minds? Our children and grandchildren? Future generations? The fate of humanity? Nobody knows.

There are legal option, which are already being deployed around the world, thankfully. In case you are not aware of this, Vaccine Choice Canada launched a legal challenge regarding the federal government’s coronavirus response on July 6. Rocco Galati, a well-known constitutional lawyer with the pugnacity of a bulldog, is leading this challenge. He also founded the Constitutional Rights Centre, whose mission is, on one hand, to challenge unconstitutional excess of the state, and on the other, to challenge the state’s abdication or abandonment of constitutional duty.

Rocco Galati is also leading another legal challenge about to be filed here in BC to sue the BC government organized by Action4Canada. If you have not already joined and donated to support these action, please, consider doing so right now. This whole scenario will ultimately be resolved in courts around the world.

There are many other legal efforts going on in Germany, Austria, Europe, the US and elsewhere, which is terrific, but will take time. In the US, the Informed Consent Action Network has been filing numerous law suits against the FDA, the CDC, Facebook and Youtube for a number of issues related to the handling of the corona-crisis, the vaccine development and censorship.

We can engage in energetic and spiritual 'warfare', spiritual martial arts if you will.

How? Thoughts and intentions are powerful, they are forces to be reckoned with, especially when administered in a group. In fact, Lynne conducted a number of large-scale intention experiments at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic aimed at reducing the virulence of the virus by 25% each time. And what happened? The dire predictions of millions of people dying like flies from the virus never materialized. Of course, there could be many reasons for that but what if the focused intention that Lynne and many others engaged in did help? What if these kinds of things thwarted the efforts of the shadowy elements driving this situation, at least to some extent?

Maybe it did help, maybe it didn't help, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

And here is the kicker folks, not only did people engaging in these kinds of experiments and groups reported healings, better jobs and relationships among others, they also reported a profound sense of connection and oneness with each other. This, friends, is human nature, connection, love, oneness, let’s use it against the 'so-called' enemy!

Vaccines and Autoimmunity

Autoimmune diseases have become increasingly common in the United States and other high-income countries over the past several decades and now affect an estimated 5%-10% of the population in those countries.

The broad category of “autoimmune disease” comprises over 100 different rheumatic, endocrinological, gastrointestinal and neurological conditions that ensue when the body’s immune responses get misdirected against itself.

Researchers generally agree that environmental factors (including drugs and chemicals) are strongly to blame for the rise in autoimmune disorders, possibly in conjunction with genetic and epigenetic influences—and studies dating back to the mid-1990s indicate that vaccines, with their unique configuration of viral or bacterial antigens and adjuvants, are a biologically plausible trigger.

Molecular Mimicry

The pathogenic hallmark of autoimmune disease is the production of proteins called autoantibodies, whereby the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own organs, tissues and cells instead of fighting external pathogens.

Vaccines can prompt autoantibody production through a mechanism called “molecular mimicry.” As explained by Israeli researchers in a new review article in Cellular & Molecular Immunology, significant similarities between the pathogenic antigens contained in a vaccine and human proteins in the person receiving the vaccine can lead to immune “cross-reactivity” and “evolve into an autoimmune process targeting the…self-proteins.”

Three Examples

The Israeli researchers reviewed three examples of probable molecular mimicry, considering the evidence linking the influenza, hepatitis B and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to vaccine-induced autoimmunity.

Influenza: In 2009, tens of millions of Europeans and North Americans received an H1N1 influenza vaccine containing a novel adjuvant called AS03 (made up of alpha-tocopherol, squalene and polysorbate 80). Soon thereafter, reports began surfacing of sharp increases in two autoimmune conditions, narcolepsy and Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS)—including a two- to three-fold increased risk of GBS in the 42 days following vaccination.

In the case of individuals with narcolepsy, research explaining the development of cross-reactivity and autoimmunity identified a similarity between an influenza vaccine nucleoprotein and a human receptor for the HCRT neurotransmitter (which helps regulate sleep-wake states). Molecular mimicry likewise has been posited as a potential mechanism linking influenza vaccine and GBS.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B: A number of case reports have suggested a role of hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines in the development of autoimmunity, particularly with regard to demyelinating diseases (conditions that damage the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers in the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord).

Demyelinating neuropathies include multiple sclerosis (MS), acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, transverse myelitis and others. A 2005 study established an initial “proof of concept for the theory of molecular mimicry leading to autoimmunity among HBV-vaccinated subjects.”

The study looked at similarities between the recombinant (genetically engineered) small HBV surface antigen contained in the HBV vaccine and two human proteins often associated with myelin damage in MS (myelin basic protein and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein) and identified significantly more cross-reactivity in vaccinated subjects versus controls.

HPV

HPV: Research has suggested a link between HPV vaccination and at least two autoimmune conditions: systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)—an abnormal heart rate condition that frequently overlaps with chronic fatigue syndrome.

In the case of SLE, the Israeli researchers have called attention in other publications to the “homology” (correspondence) between several of the viral peptides in the vaccine and the human peptides known to be dysregulated in SLE, as well as the molecular mimicry between specific HPV vaccine peptides and human proteins potentially associated with cardiac arrhythmias.

Autoantibodies in Autism

Aluminum adjuvants are present in the majority of vaccines. The Israeli researchers point out that even though aluminum adjuvants are “applied…with the sole purpose of impairing immune tolerance” and potentiating immune response, most vaccine experts ignore the adjuvants as a potentially significant environmental trigger for autoimmunity.

The willingness to overlook aluminum is somewhat surprising in light of other research linking neurotoxic metals—including mercury and lead—to the emergence of brain autoantibodies in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Mercury is still prevalent in many vaccines worldwide and in some vaccines in the U.S.

In a study published in 2015, Egyptian investigators described the presence of anti-myelin basic protein (anti-MBP) autoantibodies in autistic children who had elevated blood mercury levels. Characterizing mercury as “one of the main candidate environmental triggers for autoimmunity in autism,” these researchers hypothesized that exposure to “mercury, dietary proteins and microbial antigens” (such as the antigens in vaccines) can launch a chain of autoimmune reactions that begins with molecular mimicry and generation of homologous autoantigens.

Some researchers hypothesize that autoimmune brain pathology (such as is observed in ASD) requires an “event that increases barrier permeability allowing antibodies to traverse blood-brain barrier and gain access to brain tissue to inhibit and alter neuronal processes.” Both mercury and aluminum can damage the blood-brain barrier and enable vaccine antigens to enter the brain.

Taking Autoimmunity Seriously

Given the proliferation of over 100 autoimmune disorders since the mid-1940s, it is concerning that the three examples presented by the Israeli researchers are, by the authors’ own admission, still subject to “significant debate.”

As they go on to explain, there is an unacceptable lack of high-quality scientific data on vaccine-related adverse events. Some of the many reasons why vaccine safety monitoring is flawed include variable diagnostic classification of cases, manipulation of the post-vaccination risk interval, inability to assess underreporting of adverse events (which the U.S. government acknowledges to be widespread), and “substantial publication bias favoring studies that support vaccine safety.”

Instead of trying to bury adverse events as inconvenient to the monolithic vaccine safety narrative, we should be paying attention to the “red flags” that adverse reactions clearly represent.

Aggravations with homeopathy and CEASE therapy in children with autism

I often receive questions regarding aggravations from homeopathic care and especially from the CEASE therapy protocol in children with autism. Here is a brief explanation of aggravations in such cases and why there may be negative reports regarding this on the internet.

What is a Homeopathic Aggravation?

A homeopathic aggravation is the temporary appearance of new or old symptoms, or a temporary intensification of existing symptoms, following a dose of a homeopathic remedy.

Aggravations are normally harmless, usually mild, and short-lived. They sometimes occur following the first dose of a remedy as part of the initial rebalancing and healing effect and are actually indicative that the remedy is working.

For example in a child with autism or other developmental or behavioural challenges receiving homeopathic care, aggravations may sometimes include new symptoms of loose stools, a skin eruption, a runny nose, an intensification of behavioural symptoms such as greater irritability, increased sleep disturbance, a greater fixation on favourite activities, more stimming, more echolalia etc, and/or a return of old symptoms or very rarely a mild to moderate fever.

Again, these symptoms generally only last a few hours to a few days and are most often followed by an improvement in the child's state.

Parents should hold off on giving another dose until the aggravation is processed by the body and contact their practitioner for guidance. Parents should not think an aggravation is necessary and that they should 'push through' but continuing the remedy.

Homeopathy is always individualized and remedies should always be given 'as needed', depending on the response of the recipient.

Provings

Sometimes, what looks like an aggravation is actually a 'proving'. A proving occurs when a person experiences the symptoms the remedy is meant to help. Homeopathy is based on the similarity principle, which means that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy dose may be helpful for similar symptoms in a sick person with those symptoms.

Traditionally in homeopathy the effects of a specific substances are determined by experiments, called provings, a somewhat inaccurate translation of the German word 'Pruefung', which means to test. In an official proving of a homeopathic remedies several (usually 10-30) volunteers agree to take a certain remedy until they notice changes in their health, including on the physical, mental and emotional planes.

This information is then analyzed and, if significant, added to a huge database known as our Materia Medica. In homeopathy the idea is always to match the symptoms of the client to the data in the Materia Medica.

So if someone takes a remedy for too long - usually without proper supervision, or in rare cases, if they are very sensitive to the remedy, they may develop symptoms the remedy is meant to help.

This is why it is so important to follow the advise of the practitioner and have proper follow-ups on time, rather than just continuing a remedy, especially when any symptoms of concern are developing.

Concern is also relative, some parents are more anxious than others, but if there is any concern please just let your practitioner know right away so any dosages can be adjusted.

A Proving Story

Provings in well-managed cases are relatively rare, entirely harmless and can even be beneficial. Symptoms will start to disappear as soon as the remedy is discontinued. However, if a remedy is continued when concerning symptoms appear a proving can be quite disturbing.

I have only witnessed quite a few accidental provings in clients of mine during my lifetime as as a homeopath consulting with over 10,000 clients, but I have seen some bad ones due to mismanagement from other practitioners, including with CEASE.

In my own cases, all but one case the proving was not my fault so to speak, but the result of the client taking a remedy incorrectly.

The one that stands out most was not in a child with autism, but I will share it anyway as it is so illustrative of several factors that often come into play when caring for children with autism with homeopathy.

The client was a woman in her late 30s whom I had known and cared for for a number of years. I had not seen her in about a year when she came to my office complaining of feeling unwell.

"Anke, I don't know what's wrong with me, I feel horrible, like I'm dying or something. I feel very cold and clammy and sooo bloated, I have zero energy and the strangest thing is I want a fan on me all the time or else I feel as if can't breathe. This has been going on for about a month, I'm really worried." In all honesty, she looked a bit bluish-green around the edges, I was starting to feel worried, too.

I carefully inquired as to what had been happening in her life in the past few months. After about 20 minutes she confessed that she had been taking a new homeopathic remedy, which had been recommended by a friend of a friend, who was not a trained homeopath.

She had taken this remedy in a 30CH potency, 4 times a day. The remedy was Carbo vegetabilis, made from vegetable charcoal. In homeopathy we have a special nickname for this remedy, which is 'The Corpse Reviver'!

That should give you a hint!

In other words, this remedy may be used in cases of total collapse and in patients near death. She had been taking this remedy in a medium potency, which I would never give more than once or twice a week in a chronic case, four times a day for two months!!! So a total overdose to say the least. She was now experiencing the feeling of collapse and being near death, which the remedy is normally used for. I explained what had happened to her, we both had a good laugh, she discontinued the remedy and was fine in a few days.

Children with Autism, CEASE Therapy and Aggravations

Back to children with autism or other more serious developmental or behavioural challenges. I have been using homeopathy for these kinds of cases for almost 30 years and the CEASE therapy system (an integrated approach of different kinds of homeopathy as well as nutrition more specifically for the special needs of children on the autism spectrum) for the past eleven years. Basically, I have used various kinds of homeopathy (classical, isotherapy, tautopathy/detox homeopathy) with many hundreds of these kinds of children.

Honestly, I've only once seen what could be considered a more 'serious' reaction, a moderate to high fever of a few hours, ONCE. After that the child totally turned around and he is now completely normal and has been for several years. You can read his case here.

Another case that aggravated was a small boy who screamed for a couple of hours after his first dose of the remedy, you can read his case here. He had lost all of his language after a massive dose of vaccines. The day after the remedy he started to say a few words again.

Why the Comments Online that Scare Parents?

I think there could be several reasons why there are some more concerning stories of 'serious' aggravations with homeopathy and especially the CEASE approach online.

Pharma and/or Anti-Homeopathy Trolls

I think that some of those comments may not actually be from parents but from pharma and/or anti-homeopathy trolls who are trying to dissuade parents from using homeopathy and esp CEASE/tautopathy for children on the spectrum as it would unmask the damage vaccines and medications are doing to them.

I myself came under heavy fire from public health officials, the media and trolls for my work in 2018, so I know it does happen.

Pharma does not want us to know just how much their products are hurting us, especially children. Even now with the coronavirus situation we can see how effective the propaganda, using totally inaccurate models and selective reporting, has been and how many people, if not the majority, were and still are scared out of their wits over a corona-type of virus with a 0.25% mortality rate.

Entire economies were shut down around the world. In BC, Canada, alone, more than 22,000 small businesses were forced to close their doors. Only about 2000 people 'died' from Covid, average age 87.

Please just don't believe everything you read. Much of what you see in the media and even the CDC and the WHO is fake news and propaganda, especially when it comes to health information. Follow the money, whose interests are at stake?

Practitioners not Properly Trained

Another reason could be that some practitioners using the CEASE system may not be properly trained, in fact, I admit I was one of them in the beginning.

I read Tinus Smits' book 'Autism Beyond Despair' in the spring of 2011 and decided I should try using the system for kids with autism, after all I had been a professional ND and homeopath for 20 years and with a special interest in autism all along. A few months in I took the proper professional training and realized I had not managed cases as well as I could have.

No harm was done but I learned to take families through the process much more gently and effectively after the training. I even took the training a second time and still learned more.

Some practitioners of CEASE may not have been able to take this training and may not be managing cases properly, accidentally prescribing too aggressively.

Clients not Closely Followed

Some practitioners may not be following clients closely enough and may have them on remedies for weeks and months on end without checking in between. I've seen a couple of clients which were previously seen by other practitioners who had exactly this experience.

The practitioner sent a batch of remedies to last for a couple of months and instructed the parents with a routine recommendation. But that is not how homeopathy works, it has to be tailored to the individual at all times.

So some of these children may be aggravating, but instead of changing the program and/or allowing time for the healing to happen, or adding extra organ support etc, their bodies may be confronted with the next dose of a remedy before they have finished processing the previous one. It is much better to follow clients more closely. I like to be in touch with my parents at least every two weeks in the first few months.

Parents not Following Directions

Another reason may be that some parents are not following directions properly and are giving the remedies too often and/or do not report responses properly; I have seen plenty of the latter two, which is another reason why I monitor my clients very closely. The below examples all happened withing the last two months alone.

1) I just now messaged with a client who did not follow up for nearly three months even though I clearly explained that I wanted to check on her child after two weeks. The child is still taking the same remedy, which is helping, but not really healing things, it's only ameliorating the symptoms. This child should have been moved on to higher potencies of the remedy by now to actually support healing on a deeper level. Meanwhile precious time was lost for his recovery.

2) Another client kept her child on a remedy for 6 weeks even though I asked her to follow up after two weeks. The child's main complaint did not improve and he developed new symptoms in the meantime because this was not the correct remedy. Had she followed up after two weeks I would have changed the remedy, instead, he developed a proving.

3) Another parent gave a remedy three times a day for several days even though I instructed her to give it only twice in 24 hours and then to wait. The child had an aggravation with screaming at night.

4) Yet another parent also gave a remedy every day for several days instead of twice a week as instructed. Her son suffered from an eczema flare-up as a result.

5) Another one ran out of the recommended potency of the remedy and on his own gave a different potency without checking with me. Then I had to question him for several minutes to find out that this was what happened.

Unfortunately, in some of these cases either the homeopath or homeopathy as a system ends up getting blamed, either for an aggravation or for the child not improving as expected.

To Sum Up

Healthy Children with Homeopathy, California, Autism, CEASE Therapy

1) Aggravations can be a normal and even somewhat desirable part of the healing process and most of the time the parents just need to wait a few days for things to settle down. They should get in touch with their practitioners right away if the symptoms persist and/or if they have any concerns.

2) Some horror stories of aggravations may be fabricated by special interest groups who don't have our best interests at heart.

3) Parents should find a properly trained and experienced practitioner and interview them about said training and experience.

4) Parents should read the book by Tinus Smits - Autism Beyond Depair if they want to consider CEASE. I recommend it to all my autism parents. I also recommend 'Impossible Cure' by Amy Lanski for a better understanding of classical homeopathy for autism care.

5) Parents should follow directions closely and not continue to give remedies on their own or change remedies without proper supervision.

So please take any online reports with a grain of salt and if you see any, please forward them to me so I may investigate them and/or share this blog post.

Meanwhile please be assured that homeopathy is a very safe and gentle method to help children, including and especially children with developmental challenges and please don't let any anxiety caused by reading negative online reports get in the way of helping your child improve and thrive with homeopathy.

Unvaccinated children are less likely to be diagnosed with developmental delays, asthma, and ear infections.

Redding CA— A new peer-reviewed study in the journal SAGE Open Medicine details the health outcomes of vaccinated versus unvaccinated children from three pediatric practices in the United States concludes that unvaccinated children have better health outcomes than their vaccinated peers.

Children in the study were followed continuously for a minimum of 3 years from birth. The study was based on medical records of over 2000 children enrolled in three pediatric practices and born between November 2005 and June 2015. Vaccination status was determined based on any vaccination received prior to one year of age which yielded 30.9% of the children in the unvaccinated group. Results show that vaccination before one year of age led to significantly increased odds of medical diagnoses of developmental delays, asthma and ear infections in children.

In a separate analysis, based on the number of vaccines received by one year of age, children receiving more vaccines were more likely to be diagnosed with gastrointestinal disorders compared to those who received no vaccines within the same timeframe. In temporal analyses, children vaccinated prior to six months of age showed significant risks of each of the disorders studied as compared to unvaccinated children in the same timeframe.

The study, coauthored by Dr. Brian Hooker and Mr. Neil Miller, is unique in that all diagnoses were verified using abstracted medical records from each of the participating pediatric practices.

Lead author of the study, Dr. Hooker, stated, “The results definitely indicate better health outcomes in children who did not receive vaccines within their first year of life. These findings are consistent with additional research that has identified vaccination as a risk factor for a variety of adverse health outcomes. Such findings merit additional large-scale study of vaccinated and unvaccinated children in order to provide optimal health as well as protection against infectious diseases.”
